The sushi was okay, it’s not the bestest or greatest sushi I’ve had but it fulfilled my sushi craving enough. I went by myself, around lunch time but it wasn’t busy. The only thing that threw me off was that my waitress really never checked in on me. She dropped off water, took my order, dropped off the sushi and then dropped off the check. Never once came to fill my clearly empty water during my meal, I didn’t even see her again until the check was dropped off and that’s when I asked for a refill of water. Remember.. it wasn’t crazy busy. There was like 10 people in the restaurant, and not all tables were hers. So even though I wanted more rolls, I took the check and left. (I know a lot of people are like sweet, love it when waiters don’t bother me, there’s a difference of bothering and giving service).

My parents have been coming here for years and know the owners and staff very well. The sushi is good and very well made. I personally like the spicy salmon or spicy tuna rolls. This time I had the Yakisoba noodles. I really enjoyed it good flavor and texture. Would recommend for anyone who needs a good sushi fix.

It’s only right this gem be tucked away like it is.
Sumo Japanese Kitchen doesn’t look like much from the outside. Once inside, you’re quickly comforted by the decor, cozy feel and Okinawan influence plastered throughout.
I had the Bibimbap Rice Bowl which I enjoyed. Then I topped it off with one Summer Roll. I was very pleased. I also had the Yuzu tea. Pleasantly sweet.
Great, friendly service. I’ll have to come back . Thanks guys

Before you click away a sushi place in South Dakota this is one of my top 5 sushi places I’ve been and I’m not from up here. I got the Unagi nigiri and teriyaki chicken. The teriyaki chicken was nice and perfectly tender. The sauce for the Unagi was a little tart but consistency of that eel was so good it made totally forget the sauce. The food is so good totally recommend. 8.9/10

The best sushi in the rapid City area by far. Not as good as what you get on the beach in california, but not very far behind it. Typically great service but our waitress last night was terrible. Four stars on the food just because it’s a bit more expensive than it needs to be, but they do do a good job. If you haven’t ever gotten a poke bowl, you’re wrong. Get a poke bowl.

The ambiance in here is great and the sushi is in my opinion best in rapid city! The service is also great and attentive. 10/10 would recommend. Only thing that would make it better is adding combos to the menu because most of the menu is just individual rolls/nigiri etc. It would be nice to have combo plates for those who are indecisive (me) or want to try a little of everything! I love this place though!

Spectacular Sushi! Service was outstanding and the atmosphere was fun! How can you not have a wonderful time in a Godzilla themed room? Will definitely go back.

We make sure to visit every year during the holidays when in town to see family. The food has remained stellar since we were students at SDSM&T! I can’t wait to keep coming back, this is a highlight of the trip!

I didnt have high hopes walking in but for a sushi restaurant in South Dakota it was great! Fantastic large rolls that are well worth the price! They were a little understaffed so the service was infrequent. Otherwise i was pleasantly surprised.
