Bonfatto’s is a fourth generation year-old family business. Guy and Pauline Bonfatto started it all on August 15, 1919 in downtown Bellefonte as a grocery and home delivery business. In 1958 John Bonfatto invented our famous Bonanza Sub Sandwich, which today is still a mainstay of the business. In 1990, grandson David Letterman (son of Rose Bonfatto) joined the business. In 1999 David and his Wife Sherri bought the business and a year later opened a full-service 140 seat restaurant and lounge in November 2000. The two along with daughter Michele Shaffer renovated a historical building and moved their business back downtown Bellefonte as Bonfatto’s Italian Market & Corner Cafe. Michele Shaffer (fourth generation) bought the business in 2024

The food is very fresh . My latte tasted like they milked the cow next door just for my coffee. I had the Cesar salad with shrimp and avocado toast with a poached egg. It was a wait to get our food, but it was well worth it.

This is the best cafe/coffee in the area BY FAR. I never leave reviews but I’ve been coming consistently for 4 years and have never been disappointed. My go to is a Vanilla Latte and Lox Toast. Yum!

They make great food but they can’t get an order right to save their lives. My partner and I have visited this place dozens of times over years and while their subs and pasta are delicious they can’t get an order right. Whether it’s a sub with mayo or a sub with everything but no mayo, they mix it up over and over again. The can be busy or empty but and still mix up orders. I love the food but the sub makers need to pay attention or I wont be back.
If they mess up one more order I’ll cut them and never forget.

Me and my partner enjoyed almost everything we got here. The Muffuletta panini and avocado toast were absolute standouts, and her tiramisu latte and my hot chocolate were among the best I’ve had around state college. Portions are good for the price!

It’s always a pleasure going to Bonfatto’s! I love how many delicious vegan options they have! The Mediterranean bowl without feta is my go-to. They have a great selection of real Italian products— some that I used to purchase when I lived in Italy. Also, I’ve been impressed with how great their staff is. Good customer service is hard to come by nowadays, but they treat their customers quite well. Keep up the good work! (And keep up the vegan options!)

My favorite cafe shop in the Bellefonte/State College area! Their coffee and coffee flavors are absolutely delicious! I love to try their specials, but their classic flavors never disappoint either. They also have great cafe food, I love their chicken pesto panini, and their desserts are also so good! I’ve been here multiple times, a few times with a larger party. Although seating is limited, we were able to find seats. Also when it’s nice you can always go and sit in the park nearby and enjoy your food/drinks. Overall, I highly recommend stopping on by here!

Lovely shop that is a cafe and marketplace. If you are on a Paleo diet there are not many options to choose from. No beverages at all since they don’t even offer herbal tea. We got the Shakshuka without the bread and the Mediterranean salad. They were both all right. The presentation was good.
The girl working behind the counter was really nice and helpful in answering all the questions I had. Due to limited seating, they limit the times you can work at the Cafe or have study groups.

If you are ever in Bellefonte this is a must try. Food is delicious, coffee is amazing and their desserts are phenomenal. They also have a selection of cold cuts and Italian products, are family owned and are a Bellefonte staple! It can be a bit crowded at popular times but they have great service and quick turnaround. Lots of space in Talleyrand nearby to sir for gran and go too.

This was my second visit to Bonfattos. I wish I knew about it sooner. The staff is welcoming, the food is phenomenal, and the location is convenient. We loved the vodka penne the first time and this time we enjoyed the Italian tasting board. So delicious! It’s a cafe environment with regular tables and high top tables. They have a variety of food, marketplace items, ice cream, coffee, and pastries. The lemon bar is fantastic, as are the scones and bomboloni! I highly recommend this spot and will definitely be back whenever I’m in Bellefonte!!
