I really like the flavors of the broth, but for $25 i got the equivalent of 3 cubes of meat. Unacceptable for the price. I cooked my own proteins and added and it tasted great. Good restaraunt but do not skimp on $2 of wholesale beef, not a good look for the quality of work you guys do in that kitchen.

the cozy experience
Food was really good but most of it wasn’t what I was expecting like the soup dumplings were in soup not soup dumplings but none the less was still my mom’s favorite dish we ordered. I really loved the vegan options for most of the dishes were there without having to ask and everytime I see something like that I’m going to order it. I feel like the waiter accidentally recommended the opposite of everything I should have ordered so I ordered the other potato noodle flavor on the spot but I’m going to come back for the vegan mapa tofu instead of the dish I ordered next time I’m in Maine/Portland.

Mala dry hotpot was a big hit! Various people also really enjoyed the cucumber salad, dry chicken entree, and the cucumber cocktail. The ?honey citron tea was sweet and good. Will definitely be coming again!

Service, food and atmosphere are always incredible!! I have nothing but amazing things to say about Sichuan Kitchen! So easy to share small bites with a group, have your own meal, or take food to go! Too favorite restaurant in Portland Maine as a local

Amazing flavor! We got spicy sour soup and fish in sauce (something similar to this name). They tasted amazing!
The only problem was that the portion was very tiny considering the price (28 dollars for fish dish). There were barely any vegetables. I’ve never had any Chinese restaurant where they give tiny portion so it was quite sad

I was here for dinner, walking in, it’s a nice little restaurant. The interior decor and design is great. I had the spicy dumplings for starter which was so delicious. Then I ordered the spicy pork noodles, they never asked me about the spice level so I assumed it would be what most can eat. The food came out extremely spicy, I tried one bite and knew there was no way I could eat it. They were generous enough to make my food again on a milder spice level but please make sure you specify how spicy you want your food. The heat is real. Besides that, I had a good experience here and I might be back to try more menu items.

We have been going to Sichuan Kitchen since it first opened. Being exiled Londoners, we missed having authentic and deliciously spiced Chinese food and finding this restaurant was like finding water in the desert. (Some dishes can be made less spicy if that is your preference.) The variety of dishes, prompt and friendly service and the enjoyable atmosphere make Sichuan Kitchen a real gem. It is always our first choice for lunch on our visits to Portland.

We ordered takeout at Sichuan.
We had dumplings, gyoza, ants climbing a tree and braised beef noodles.
Excellent dumpling and gyoza.
Ants climbing a tree: VERY dry, very spicy while we explicitly asked « no spices ».
Braised beef noodles: well – you will pay $22 for 4 small pieces of beef (as another review pointed out). This is a steal even though the pasta and broth are good.
Be aware also they do not sell any drinks when ordering takeout.
Overall mixed experience.

Service is always incredible, great atmosphere, very cozy, and the food is absolutely incredible! Can be spicy so if you aren’t a fan just ask which options are more tame and you will find something you love. But if you like spice, like me, there are no other restaurants in portland that capture the flavors put on each plate at Sichuan!
