The first Charlie’s Chili opened for business on Balboa Island during the summer of 1967 and quickly became a hit. In 1972, we moved from the bay to the Newport Pier, and that’s where we’ve been ever since. Home to the world-famous chili cheese omelet and gorgeous beachfront views, we’re a local landmark and a favorite spot for people from all over. Regulars come in for their weekly bloody Mary fix. Vacationers come to watch surfers ride the waves. Families come in to take advantage of our dog-friendly dining and all-day breakfast. Basically, we offer a little something for everybody. So come hang out with us, and let us treat you to a home-cooked meal served up the SoCal way.
Serving causal Mexican-American eats, this almost-on-the beach spot is popular with beach bums.

Service and food are always great but today they topped it.
My sister wasn’t feeling well, she ordered the pancakes and just asked if they happened to have peanut butter. They didn’t have it and we moved on, it was no big deal. 5 minutes later the waitress dropped off a little cup of amazing natural peanut butter. It made our day. She was so kind to go out of her way to provide for her and it was exactly what my sister needed to settle her stomach. They are always so kind and friendly, service is always top notch. We love you Charlie’s Chili!!!
We went back this year(2025)with the family for the first time in a while, and just like before, the service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable—everyone loved it. Of course, the food was great, but the friendliness of the staff made it taste even better. I’ll always be happy to open my wallet when I visit.
Cafe near Newport Beach Dori Fish Market. The best restaurant to sit on the street and watch people while enjoying a leisurely cup of coffee and a meal
The food is above average / the prices are very realistic / the staff service is top notch. We had a great brunch here on a weekend morning while walking along the beach with our beloved dog. We go here often.
Breakfast at Charlie’s Chili hit the spot!
We sat outside with a view of the ocean and a light breeze that made my coffee taste 20% better (scientifically unproven, but spiritually true).
The scrambled eggs were fluffy and well-seasoned, sausage patties juicy and not too greasy.
But the real MVP? The French toast — crispy edges, soft center, and just enough powdered sugar to make you feel like it’s a cheat day, even if it’s not.
We also got oatmeal with fresh fruit and all the toppings on the side — which felt like a breakfast DIY kit and tasted great.
Service was quick, friendly, and we never felt rushed.
Perfect spot for a chill morning near the pier — I’d come back just for the vibe (and maybe double French toast next time).
Rock on Charlie’s. Rock on.
