I cannot speak highly enough of this place! Some of the best ‘Shrimp and Grits’ I’ve ever had, I ate right here. The grits are creamy, cooked to perfection, and the sauce ladled on top is phenomenal.

The inside of the restaurant is clean, the portions were pleasant, and the man behind the counter was gracious and generous.

Besides the mains, the beignets were the best I’ve ever had. The cannoli stuffed beignet was a perfect marriage between two classics. I wish I lived closer so I could enjoy them every day.

The boudin balls were also a highlight. The closest thing I can compare it to is a sausage ball but this one is “Louisianafied.” I could have ate 13 of them—14 would have been too much though.

I definitely will be back and I highly recommend, for anyone in the area, or traveling through, to try this wonderful place. Tell them, “Bubba sent ya!” You won’t receive anything but let’s start something!

My credibility is that I’ve eaten at Chef Emeril’s and Chef Paul’s places in New Orleans. Roax St. Cafe is TOP NOTCH!

Two professional chefs are in the kitchen! We loved eating chef-level food in a chill atmosphere, especially since we have a toddler.

The shrimp were blackened perfectly. I eat a lot of shrimp (husband from the low country), and the shrimp were the most delicious blackened shrimp I’ve ever had.

The beignets were incredible!! Far better than Cafe Du Monde. We are not the only guest who thinks that! One of the chefs is trained in pastries, and it is evident!! The beignets had a perfect texture. I truly don’t know how you achieve the texture given it is fried. Incredible!

Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. All of the staff are so amazing and kind! We loved the big purple chair with the props too!

I had a mixed experience. The food was amazing. I love shrimp and grits, and this was the best I’ve had. The staff was nice and attentive. What I was not happy with, we came in with gift cards for one entree each. We both ordered the half and half, so we could try more things, and since it was a dollar more, offered to pay the difference. They didn’t seem prepared for this request and instead gave us an entire order of the four dishes, so we ended up paying for two dishes we wouldn’thave ordered if we’d known. But at least we got the food we paid for, just more food than expected. Still, felt a little abused. The beignets were outstanding, and so was the food.

Hidden gem, taste of Nola in Virginia. The jambalaya was very falvourful. First time having the Maque Choux & an instant fan! The Boudin Balls were perfectly crispy on the outside, so soft & delicious on the inside with a great Cajun Remoulade sauce packed full of flavor. The staff was very friendly & helpful, this place should be way busier that it is. Time to break out the music & lights to really feel like you’re in Nola!

Tried this place out for the very first time today and unfortunately the food fell flat for me. I got the jambalaya which was completely bland and the rice was overcooked 1/10. I also got the étouffé which had some flavor but was still lacking overall 5/10. As a “dessert” I got some beignets which were okay 6/10. The people were really nice inside and the place looks clean and inviting. I just wish the food was as good as I hoped it would be.

I came here to do a “reconaissance” to see if it would be a good idea for our holiday party. I loved the quaint feel of the “dine in” part, but I got my items to go. All I can say is I did not have a bad item there. And the banana pudding…

Fast forward to our get together and everyone there was getting seconds and just loving how good everything tasted. It was worth every penny we spent. We hardly had any leftovers and I had some really full and happy people. Again, the banana pudding…so many compliments. Several also stated that it was the best shrimp and grits they had in a LONG time.

Good Job Roux St. Cafe!

It’s awesome to have good Cajun food in little ‘ol Charlottesville!
The food is not perfectly New Orleans, but it’s close enough and sometimes better. For instance, the bread for the po’boy is not what you’d find in Louisiana; it’s sweeter and softer. However the innards are spot on, and the bread really works with it. The shrimp and grits are amazing; my wife won’t order anything else because that dish is too good to pass up.
I highly recommend giving this place a try. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
