Overall, pretty mediocre. The service from the girl at the counter was good. The food came out relatively quick, but the food was not great. The ingredients are all low quality. The green Chile was bland, nearly flavorless. The carne asada fries were undercooked and flavors were all off. The taco and tostada were okay, ground beef had good flavor. The beans had an odd aftertaste almost fake or chemical. Not good.
The street tacos were good.
We came here while in the area, but there is better Mexican food in the area. Probably won’t return.

I ate there a few times and I did not like food (burritos). Burritos are sludgy, tortillas taste cheap/gross like one of those Walmart’s tortillas that can stay on the shelf for months and months. There are so many better options in the neighborhood. I prefer burritos from Chipotle over this place by far.

The worst breakfast burrito I have ever had. Absolutely no flavor. I asked for a side hash browns and a large Dr Pepper in addition to my burrito. I did not get the hash browns and I got a can of Dr Pepper not a large Dr Pepper. I paid over $14.00 for a breakfast that was not worth even a $1.00. Whomever made this breakfast this morning, should be disgusted with themselves. You have no business cooking food or making any kind of food. I’ve had some pretty nasty food in my life but this “burrito “ was horrendous. This was a bland concoction of nothing. No flavor Nothing. Even the chili that the burrito was barely smothered with was tasteless and bland. I understand I ordered mild, but this wasn’t even close to mild. It was bland watery nasty.
I guess I should’ve checked the reviews before I ordered. But the last time I ordered food from here it was amazing. Either this place was sold and bought by people who are too cheap to understand you have to give good food or they’ve let the place run down.

Regrettably, EL Jefe has permanently closed as of 1/1/2026. This was our favorite breakfast burrito place for the past 15 years. It was a gut punch to see it closed, when we drove past it today, 1/3/2026.

Horrible!! Ordered from them for years, but I placed an order for lunch and also ordered salsa today, which I paid for ($2.00). Then ordered extra salsa for the rest of my meal. After ordering, El Jefe charged me an additional $1.62 for a small portion of salsa! What!?!?!? For this??? I understand that it’s not much, but I order from them frequently. First photo is my regular order, next photo is for the extra charge!! . Yep…Never going through Grubhub again or ordering from El Fefe!!! . They took my review down!!!

Local place with lots of choices and pretty good tacos. We had quesadillas and street tacos. The chicken in the quesadilla was tastily marinated. The shredded pork was reasonably good but the salsas needed flavor–neither the tomato nor tomatillo salsa had much zip. The staff member that helped us was friendly and gave a couple suggestions.

I love burritos and all Mexican food, but this was far from what I expected in terms of flavor and ingredients. I can honestly say it was the worse burrito I’ve ever had, even for only $10. I haven’t dined in, but I don’t ever plan to because the food speaks for itself. Definitely don’t recommend.

I hadn’t ate at this spot in awhile and hoped it would be as good as I remembered and so I ordered through door dash and so there was a mix up between driver and restaurant which happens sometimes.
Trust me it’s forgiveable and once I called and every was explained it made sense so the service gets 5 stars. now to the best part of this experience the food. Man this breakfast burrito is bomb I ordered the double meat. It did not disappoint the green chili sauce inside was fantastic and I am glad I ordered this today. I definitely recommend the breakfast burrito the size of the burrito is worth the price and the price isn’t that bad at all around 10 dollars again worth it in my opinion. Having said all this I can honestly say it tasted better then the last time I ate there I will be back as there are things on the menu that I have never tried yet. Thanks for making great food.

El Jefe is modern inside with a simple outside seating. I heard from a very reliable source a couple of weeks ago that their menu is worth checking out. Especially one thing that I am fond of: Menudo!
It’s confirmed. Their menudo is the best around within my driving limit for food. And I have none:) it’s loaded with meat instead of lots of hominy. The best! It comes in a medium bowl and the smell is pretty strong which to me signals a dish made by someone who loves it like me.

I don’t know if the El Jefe in d/t Denver is related to this Arvada location. I’m not going anywhere now that I found this!
