When founders Jeremy Mandrell and Anne Ng set out from the Bay Area to San Antonio, they thought they’d left their baking careers for good. Then they started making and selling pastries at a farmer’s market on the weekends for the love of it and quickly developed a fan base. When they met local entrepreneur Charlie Biedenharn, that stand became Bakery Lorraine, an artisanal bakery that was named one the country’s best new bakeries. Since then, they’ve been recognized as one of the Top 100 Bakeries in the US by Food and Wine and nominated for best pastry chefs by the James Beard Foundation. Our philosophy is simple – we make fresh pastries that reflect our respect for the ingredients and the technique of our craft. Everyday.
Bakeshop with a patio serving sandwiches & an array of cookies, tarts & muffins, plus coffee.

I tried their hot chocolate, and it was good — I’d rate it around 3.5/5. It wasn’t outstanding, but still enjoyable. What really stands out is the atmosphere. It’s a great spot to sit, relax, and even get some work done for a few hours.
If you’re in The Domain and looking for a comfortable café with a nice ambience, this is a solid choice.
My only hope is that you’re here while they’re serving either the Turkish eggs or the Cuban sandwich — both go absolutely crazy. They’re the kind of meals you dream about long after you’ve finished them. I always opt into swapping the chips for the roasted potatoes and grab the hot sauce at the self-service station 😉
It was a late lunch for us (after 2pm) because we had just hiked and needed a spot that still served hot coffee & breakfast.. thought this place would be good..
Noone can ever get over medium well eggs and what a disappointment when we received our eggs scrambled.. why that happened, idk.. sucks being asked how we want our eggs and get it completely wrong, and although the attempt to fix it was offered and appreciated, still got the eggs wrong.. disappointing..
Food was ok, potatoes were kind of “weird”.. only thing was good was our cappuccinos and fresh fruits on the side.. wanted a breakfast sandwich and another thing on the menu that required croissant, but they were out.. so we opted for a breakfast plate instead.. how are u a bakery and run out croissants??
Most likely won’t be coming back..
We got cappuccino, chocolate croissant, matcha panna cotta, French toast and Frittata.
The coffee tasted like plain warm milk — bland and disappointing.
The French toast felt more like deep-fried bread than anything else.
Both the frittata and panna cotta were just average, while the chocolate croissant was the only thing that actually tasted good.
Overall, not a great experience — and everything was overpriced.
The turkey pesto was good.
I liked the oatmilk matcha exactly how it comes.
The poptart was tasty, but very sweet and 3 people can share it.
The desserts, as expected, were beautifully made and delicious.
Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. My matcha latte order was missed entirely, and when I asked for cutlery, the server refused to bring it over, which honestly soured the experience a bit. The food deserves praise, but the service really needs work to make this place as good as it should be.
