Tried Sugarfish again after a few years.

Two of us ordered:
2 nozawa lunches
$40 ea
auto 16% servie charge
Food comes with edamame.
tuna and chutoro sashimi
albaore sushi
salmon sushi
toro hand roll
chutoro sushi
japanese yellow tail sushi

Not too busy…small line right when opening.

Overall, food was good. Service could definitely be a bit faster and more attentive.

Should be able to find parking in the plaza.

The $32 “trust me” was delicious and suitably portioned for a filling lunch. It is probably one of the few affordable omakase in LA. Very fresh.

There was no waiting at opening hours, but it quickly filled up by noon. This restaurant does not take reservations and requires all members of a party present to be seated.

Delicious melt-in-your-mouth sushi. What a treat! Our server was wonderfully attentive and her energy matched the overall atmosphere of the place, which was peaceful, happy, and held at a high standard. The place is a bit small, but perhaps purposefully so. It is intended to be intimate. The food is delicious. We ordered the “The Nozawa Trust Me”. Every bite is a journey; Just wonderful and delicate. Highly recommend!

I love the place, the environment and the service.
But I am sorry, the food disappointed me.
We had The Nozawa Trust Me course, most of the dishes and nigiri with ponzu were way too sour that we could not enjoy the fish. Ponzu sauce mostly mix with the rice. Even the extra ord Albacore belly that we expected the most also disappointed us just because of ponzu sauce.
We always looking for good quality fish with good texture and SugarFish mostly offer it (but not all kind of fish)
I had sushi from outside/inside the country before, but sadly SugarFish wont be the place we will comeback.
But def a good place to hangout.

Reason for visiting: had dinner for my birthday

Date/time of visit: Friday night, 8:30 PM

Parking: in the adjacent lot, shared with other businesses. Free. Kinda busy so parked near the back

Party size: 5

Environment/ambience: busy and small. Not a place for large parties. Max prob 5, maybe 6. Loud, mixed crowds. No TVs. Kinda dark inside so kinda hard to read the menus.

Service: ok; an hour wait. When they texted us, we thought table was ready but it was another 30 mins! There’s a bar next door at Toscanova; just drank there and waited. Instead of waiting at Sugarfish, pretty cramped inside. Then the waiter.. we asked why it seemed like the rice wasn’t packed tightly on some of the sushi and falling apart.. “it’s prepared that way.. sometimes the rice falls apart that way on some sushi..” Service itself was good.

Food: food is great.. we ordered 2 Nozowa Trust Me and 2 Don’t Think. Just Eat. Sushi was great, fish tasted great. Came out pretty quick. It was enough for 5.. we had a few sake bottles and Asahi.

Cost: ~$450 with tip

Would I go back (yes/no): 60/40; not many places worth 90 minute wait to eat and they don’t take reservations

This place isn’t for MEN, it’s for tiny little boys and high school kids. The portions are way too small to feed a normal eating man. They bring the food in Bird Size portions almost insulting like to see how stupid someone can be dine here. Almost like a social experiment. Service is whack, very scripted and no emotions. Typical Sushi joint decoration so nothing so special here. If you’re into not being able to feast and eat like a king this place IS NOT FOR YOU.

I asked for Siracha, was responded we don’t give out extra sauces the food comes as per chefs rules , I asked for something Spicy and was only given Wasabi. SMFH

I felt like a dog, getting little treats.

Great sushi place! Super affordable while also offering a luxurious dining experience. The sushi here is of very high quality, with most of it even melting in your mouth. I’d recommend trying their predetermined samplers as they seem to include some of the best and freshest food.

Second time here and the food is incredible. One of those places where the fish is buttery and feels like it melts in your mouth. We each got our own Trust Me set menu order. And it was so good plus the pacing for the dishes was just right, not being too slow or fast.

Just know though that they really mean it when they say they will not hold a table until your full party is there. Would seat us until my friend was fully done walking from the parking lot. Overall great experience and would recommend it.

Food is always fresh! If you never been here, I highly recommend you try their Ultimate Sashimi experience and order any of the “Trust Me” combos. You will get plenty of food and will leave with a smile, you can thank me later by paying for my next meal. Enjoy friends!
