On our way back from Nashville, we stopped in Birmingham for brunch! After a bit of research, we decided to give this spot a try. One of my friends, who went to culinary school and is a chef, helped us explore the different dishes on the menu. I tried the duck hash and French toast—both were delicious! I loved the ambiance, especially the balcony with views of downtown. A nice surprise was that the chef came out to introduce himself, which made the experience even more special. The only thing I’d love to see improved is the entrance to the building.

This place was recommended by the manager at my hotel. She gave it such great reviews I had no choice but to try it. I must say it did not disappoint at all. The first thing that popped out was the braised rabbit omelette; it was cooked to perfection with full flavor. The R&R omelette gives you a nice take on a traditional omelette but not your basic everyday style. The steak omelette was a weekend menu item packed full of flavor, perfectly cooked mushrooms and sautéed onions, and the steak was juicy to say the least. I added crab to my shrimp and grits to give it a bit of a twist. There was some sort of red creole sauce on top that really helped all the flavors gel; another dish that did not disappoint. The food was great, the atmosphere was nice, the staff was friendly and attentive and I hate it was raining because I would’ve enjoyed the balcony and city views. The chef even came out to speak to our table personally which spoke volumes. I highly recommend this place and I’ll definitely be back soon to enjoy more of their menu! If you haven’t tried this place yet go ahead and make your reservation; you won’t be disappointed. (Restaurant parking in the rear of the building on 16th St N)

Great space, but when the peak experience is that they kept the carafe of water full, this is the reason we could get Sunday brunch reservations just 4 days in advance. We arrive early and wait 4 minutes while the staff struggles to choose a table for us…in an empty restaurant where our reservation was 4 days old. They seat us…under the only table beneath a bulb that is flashing. Our server takes drink orders and then food is served over a partition rather than coming around to our table. Indo like that scene in the wizard of Oz with the guard at the gate of Emerald City, but I don’t need this at Sunday brunch. Omelet was overdone, biscuits served with room temperature gravy, and the server came by zero times after the food was delivered. Prices did not match the quality. Lovely space, I would not want a dreadful experience like this if they were hosting my wedding or rehearsal dinner. I’m pretty sure the management needs to rework a lot of processes to make it a place worth going back to. Other places in town did not have these defects on our trip.

We love R&R! We’ve enjoyed several brunches & dinners here and have never left disappointed. The drinks are well made and tasty, and the food is just great. Those beignets.. If you haven’t had their brunch you should go asap. Make reservations and sit outside if the weather is good. You will not regret it.

2/4/23- The Executive Chef and Owner was out fraternizing with patrons while the kitchen was very behind. It took 30 minutes to get 2 glasses of wine, an hour to get 2 starters and an hour and forty five minutes to get out entree’s.
I do not recommend!
The starters- Tuna Tatar was a bit boring and the avocado was brown. The Brussel sprouts salad had good flavors but there were so many elements that were too wilted or overcooked.
My husband ordered the rabbit and the pasta came out uncooked. So uncooked it cracked when pressed on. I did not even try my veal dish. If a restaurant cannot cook pasta then I won’t trust them with meat. The risotto that came with my dish was over cooked and looked like mash instead of risotto. The entrees were very oily.
The service staff were good but seemed unsure of how to operate in a red where the Executive Chef/ Owner does not care about the quality of food, service and overall reputation of the restaurant

This is a little lower score than it likely deserves, but I think it is reflective of the experience. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. The service was prompt and very friendly. And, the food was very good as well. The reason for the low score is the back of the house seems to have issues. It took us about 2 hours to get entrees. We did start with drinks and appetizers, but it was over an hour from the time we ordered our entrees until the food arrived. Our server and the manager did all they could to make up for it, but you just can’t cover up issues in the back. The other thing I would say is that the prices are a bit high for what it is and compared to other similar restaurants nearby. Where most restaurants like this would have most entrees is the $30s with seafood and steaks pushing into the $40s. I would say that most things here are in the $40s with seafood and steaks into the $50s. Add in some wine and appetizers and you are looking at $200/couple. It’s not astronomical compared to peers, but it is higher.

So, my recommendation is that if you have plenty of time, go check it out. All the food at our table had great taste and was mostly well prepared (one person had undercooked risotto). And the front of the house staff was great and the management seemed engaged and attentive. But it will be an all night dinner unless they make some back of the house changes.

We are absolutely SMITTEN with this cozy little spot! Kamryn took excellent care of us for dinner and the food was amazing but the ambiance of the restaurant was icing on the cake! From the chic historical architecture to the fabulous art throughout the building and the mural in the dining room to the charm of the staff, everything was such a wonderful experience and we can’t wait to come try their brunch!

We had the best girls’ brunch. Great outdoor seating, atmosphere, food, and drinks. Highly recommend the beignets as an appetizer. Everyone’s food was delicious – shrimp and grits, biscuits and gravy, french toast baguettes.

Most of all, Jason gave us exceptional service. Ask for Jason.

Be sure to reserve table in advance. We had no wait.

I will start off by saying this, I don’t believe our experience was necessarily normal but it was the only time I have been so I have to include that. It was pretty busy inside but when we were seated, about 5 minutes later the place cleared out drastically. At first we sat down and no one seemed to come wait on us so we sat for about 10 minutes. Then finally our waitress greeted us and realized our table didn’t even have glasses, silverware or plates. She then went to get those and when she placed them, we realized my glass was not that clean. She then went to replace it and while she was gone I realized my napkin containing my silverware had something dried and hard on it. When she came back I pointed it out to her and she continuously apologized saying that none of this was in any way a normal situation but rather they were short-staffed and it led to everything being thrown off. After that everything began improving. We had the Stuffed French Toast, R&R Gumbo, and a biscuit. The biscuit was very good and had a ton of layers along with apricot preserves. The gumbo was good and contained crawfish, sausage and crab. My only improvement idea would be more crab and more rice. It was about a quarter cup of rice but maybe most people prefer minimal rice. The highlight was the Cheesecake-stuffed French Toast. The Cheesecake inside was very good and it was cooked superbly. The conecuh bacon on the side was also great. In all the food was great but they had some hiccups. Would go back again and hope the failures were all an irregularity.

Great Atmosphere, service has lots of room for improvement. Food was amazing but after the wait the thrill was gone . Our bar tender did explain after the wait the kitchen staff was short and that was the reason for the delay. Knowing that helped but would have been better knowing up front so the delay could have been anticipated.
