My friend ordered the brisket dinner which came with a good portion of beef, brisket, potato salad and mac & cheese.
That was also a yummy and filling meal.
It was a little pricy at $53 including tip for 2 meals but it was beef and it’s expensive everywhere. It was a treat and we really enjoyed it. I got some pics of mine but my friend inhaled hers.
Stopped here for lunch a little after 1 PM. Ordered the fish and chips and my wife had a French dip. She said the meat was dry and had no real flavor. The batter on the fish and chips was saturated with grease. (See photo)
Service was mediocre at best.
The best part of the meal was the pint of beer. I would recommend you save your $50 (before tip) and go elsewhere.
The food at Freeland Café is everything you want from a hometown favorite—comforting, hearty, and consistently delicious. Whether you’re stopping in for a classic breakfast, a cozy lunch, or one of their daily specials, you can taste the care that goes into every dish. The portions are generous, the ingredients fresh, and the flavors simple in the best possible way. Their [insert favorite dish if you have one] is especially standout.
Service is friendly and efficient, even during the busiest hours. The team here strikes that perfect balance of attentiveness without ever making you feel rushed. It’s the kind of place where they remember your usual order and ask how your week has been.
Prices are more than fair, making Freeland Café a place you can enjoy regularly without feeling like you’re splurging. It’s the definition of a reliable, feel-good spot—one that locals love and visitors instantly understand the hype about.
If you’re anywhere near town, Freeland Café is absolutely worth a visit. Good food, kind people, and the charm only a truly local café can offer.
The bar was empty.
We sat down and we decided that we didn’t like where we were sitting so we wanted to move seats. The table we wanted to move to had sun. The lady immediately stops us and tells us that those tables were reserved and that we couldn’t sit there. They immediately put reversed signs on both the tables. My friend is black. They are racist. We sat there the entire time eating our food and no one ever showed up.
We came for breakfast and went all in. That Spam Musubi? Unreal. It showed up crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavor. I’m not exaggerating when I say it straight up stole the spotlight. This was not some throwaway breakfast side. It was the reason I’m still thinking about this place
We also dove into the Eggs Benedict, a scramble, and Steak and Eggs with a side salad that was so fresh and bright it could have its own fan club. The steak was juicy, seasoned just right, and paired perfectly with those eggs. Everything felt homemade and hearty, like someone’s grandma was back there cooking with love and zero shortcuts
Other folks are obsessed with the Fish and Chips and the burgers, and after seeing those plates come out, I get it. That’s next on my list, no question. Reviews don’t lie, and clearly the locals already know what’s up
So yeah, the wait was long. Like over an hour long. But it was worth it. This place is a local legend for a reason. It’s got that small town, old school vibe where people know each other, and the food is the kind that fills your stomach and your soul
The staff? Mostly awesome. A couple folks were absolute stars, super friendly and doing the most to keep things running. One server seemed a little short, but honestly it was slammed and probably just one of those mornings. No biggie, because once we got seated, it was all smooth sailing
Want to make the most of your visit?
Get there early or be ready to wait
Do not skip the Spam Musubi
Bring a good appetite and chill vibe
Take your time and soak it all in
Final word? Freeland Café and Bar is the real deal. It’s that rare mix of comfort food greatness, local charm, and food that makes you feel things. If you’re on Whidbey Island and miss this spot, you’re doing it wrong
Now go order the Spam Musubi and tell them I sent you
