I absolutely loved this place! I ordered takeout for my birthday today. The sushi was fresh, high-quality, and beautifully presented. The variety of fish was incredibly fresh, and the sashimi was fantastic! They also had other very authentic Japanese dishes. The staff was friendly and attentive. It was the perfect place for a relaxing meal. Highly recommended!

I’ve been a regular customer for 20 years. I’ve been going to Katana-ya with my parents since I was little, and even now, after getting married, I bring my wife back. Tokyo Feng is still as delicious as ever. Their sushi has been infused with innovative elements, and the flavor and texture have improved. The portions are generous, and the prices are affordable! Tokyo Feng, we hope you continue to do better and continue to do well for another 20 years!

The guys were very friendly and the food was prepared very quickly. They took care of us very quickly. I recommend this place if you are looking for affordable, traditional, simple and delicious ramen or sushi. The owner said that poke bowls will be introduced soon, looking forward to it! Thanks again to Tokyo Style Sushi, we will definitely come back as always!

Dropped in to the area for some old neighborhood exploring, and found that this location had new ownership.

Got the Pacific Roll To-Go. Fresh Hamachi & Scallops with house Unagi Sauce. An unexpected ingredient, macadamia nuts didn’t quite compliment the sweet creamy flavors of the seafood. If I were allergic, it would be more of a concern. They gave good quality chop sticks, though!

*I went back and checked the description of the roll on the menu and the nuts weren’t mentioned *

Real good quality sushi roll, though! It looks like their ramen is a specialty, the way they advertise it inside the restaurant. Can’t wait to come back!

Vegetable ramen, no pork broth. It looks like only menu item, available to vegan or vegetarian. Medium spice gave the broth a good kick. Small market of vegetable and tofu. Not a lot of options for vegan diet but other diner like his salmon dish. Friendly and efficient service. Stars rating applicable only if vegan.

Friendly service. Fresh sashimi. Chef Jason made beautiful sushi rolls and uni quail egg special. Miso soup was steamy hot. Lobster roll with mango and crab meat in soy paper wrap was refreshing. My favorite was the slightly torched butterfish walu. Great texture and delicious taste. Spider roll was also very tasty. Would come back to try their ramen next time.

Update 3/15/25:
Tonkatsu ramen was excellent. I drank all the soup till the last drop. Chef Jason told me that they made their broth from 8 hour slow cooked chicken and pork ribs. No wonder is was tasty but not salty. Highly recommend it! Especially a cold rainy day. The soft boil egg was also very tender.

New owner Calvin and Katie were friendly and happy to create more items on the menu. Chicken Kara-age was one of the most authentic ones I’ve tasted in the Bay Area. Juicy and tender inside and crispy outside lightly breaded. Reminded me of izakaya in Tokyo. Chef Jason did it again with incredible sashimi plating fresh walu butter fish, white tuna, salmon, hamachi etc.

A satisfying lunch! The kids loved it, and there was also soda that the kids loved to drink. The salmon and eel were very fresh, and each roll was very big. I liked the fried shrimp sushi the most, it was freshly made, and the fried shrimp was very crispy! I will try it again

Katana-ya ramen, an old institution in El Cerrito, has retired, and a new Japanese restaurant has taken its place. I met the owner awhile back at my work when he called asking about how to get rid of or recycle stuff, and we got into talking, and I found out he was taking over Katana-ya. He said to wait a couple of months before visiting since he was sourcing in better ingredients. Little did I know that he would retire the name Katana-ya and rename the restaurant Tokyo Feng ramen and sushi.

After several months, my family and i decided to go out and eat and wanted to try the new katana-ya. But surprise surprise.. gone.. oh well. Try Tokyo feng. We came in an hour before close so it wasn’t busy at all. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. We ordered the black garlic ramen with egg, Tonkatsu ramen, beef curry, spicy tuna roll, and sushi dinner set c. Both ramen and sushis came out promptly after maybe 10-15 minutes. The curry came out maybe closer to 10 minutes later. They must have had to cook it fresh or something.

The tonkatsu ramen soup was savory and creamy with a good amount of noodles and ingredients/toppings.

The black garlic ramen was equally delicious but with a more earthy garlic taste. The char-siu roasted pork was in the thin side and a bit dry but was still good. There was a good amount of whole fried garlic in the soup, which was nice.

The sushi set C dinner had large portions of sashimi and 6 pieces of California roll. The roll was good and fresh. Typical California roll fake crab and mayonnaise combo. It also came with salad and miso soup. The salad and Miso soup were just ok.

The beef curry was really fresh and delicious with tender slices of beef with a bit of fat attached. The curry was a light reddish color, almost like tomato based but with curry seadoning added. There were large chunks of veggies in it too. The curry came with a small bowl of rice to go along with it.

The spicy tuna roll was fresh and delicious. It wasn’t spicy at all for me but I can take a lot of heat. Sushi rice was fresh but needed a bit more vinegar seasoning.

Overall, it was a good first impression. The food was delicious, staff friendly, and attentive. Would come again.
