You will not leave hungry or broke. Original location has a wait on game days. Other times during the week, no wait. Definitely worth the wait. Onion rings were a wonderful surprise. Friends talked up the sandwiches all month and lived up to the praise. Butcher quality sandwiches for a similar price of fast food. Unbelievable!Excellent customer service as well! A must visit in Strip District!

Yinz already know I gotta say it — there’s nothin’ like the original.
I had to stop dahn at Primanti Bros., and man… this place just hits different. The second you walk in, it feels like Pittsburgh history slapped between two slices of Italian bread.
I went with the When Pigs Fly sandwich, and holy hell — stacked high with pork, bacon, fries, slaw, and all the beautiful chaos Primanti’s is known for. Messy in the best way. The kind of sandwich you gotta lean over the paper and commit to. No dainty bites. Just full-send Yinzer energy.
On the side, I grabbed the fries and fried pickles, and they were exactly what you want in a place like this — hot, crispy, salty, and perfect for soaking up whatever beer you’ve got in front of you. Those pickles? Crunchy, golden, and gone way too fast.
But honestly, the food’s only half the story.
Between the old-school neon out front, the snowy Strip District night, and the walls covered in Pittsburgh legends — Pirates, Steelers, Terrible Towels, and faces every local grew up hearing about — the nostalgia is unreal. You’re not just eating a sandwich, you’re sittin’ inside a piece of the city.
This is the kind of place that reminds you why Pittsburgh is Pittsburgh. Gritty. Loud. Proud. No frills. Just damn good food and history dripping off the walls.
If you’ve only ever been to a newer Primanti’s… do yourself a favor.
Go to the original.
Get messy.
And remember why this city eats the way it does.

Recommended to me that I come here while on a work trip. Happen to end up at the original location. Cool little establishment. Got their famous pastrami. Not a big coleslaw person. But the coleslaw was both flavorful and not overly saucy. It was a great addition to the sandwich. Staff where super friendly. Highly recommend

If you’re in Pittsburgh it’s worth a visit to the strip district to the original Primanti Bros. The staff was friendly, and the food was great. It’s a cool old school atmosphere. Afterwards take a walk around the ack streets. There is a pizza place not too far that has good gelato.

All right, I am going to say it – I absolutely do not understand the hype around these sandwiches. On a recent trip to Pittsburgh before heading to a Steelers game, my dad, my husband, and I felt that we had to do the quintessential Pittsburgh thing and get a Primanti Bros sandwich.

I ordered what essentially was a burger-sandwich (the Pittsburgh sandwich) while my dad and my husband tried the pastrami sandwich.

When the sandwiches arrived, we were blown away by how massive in size they were. Luckily, the bread is very soft and compacts down so that you can actually pick up the sandwich and take a reasonable bite.

But without some sort of notable sauce or anything, we all felt that the sandwiches were extremely dry and unremarkable. Adding french fries did not help with the dryness but exacerbated it. I got so desperate I ended up dunking my Pittsburgh sandwich in ketchup just to have enough moisture to get it down.

Again, if someone could please explain to me what the hype is around these sandwiches I would greatly appreciate it.

Service was fast, but it’s Pittsburgh so it wasn’t very friendly. The space gave off a sports bar type vibe. I’m glad I tried it so that I could say I have but I highly doubt I would ever come back.

Our server (the manager/owner?) was so sweet! He greeted us with a smile and had non stop corny jokes going. The food was reasonably priced and good!
Primantis + Heintz ketchup + IC lite & a pickle topped off our Pittsburgh weekend experience.

Fellow travelers, when in Pittsburgh, please visit the original location of Primanti Bros, the definitive Pittsburgh food experience. This location is charmingly decorated with cartoon images of Pittsburgh favorites and greats across all fields from entertainment to sports.

You can enter the place and grab a seat wherever you like, we recommend sitting at the bar if your party can find the space. We visited on a Monday evening and there was plenty of seating space available.

During our visit, we ordered the following:

– Cheese Fries
– Hot Homemade Chili Bowl
– Pitts-Burger #2 Best Seller
– Almost Famous Roast Beef Sandwich
– Draft IC Light

Our favorite item was the Hot Homemade Chili Bowl. The sandwiches were both tasty, we liked the bit of saltiness from the roast beef.

All sandwiches come with tomato, fries, and coleslaw. The coleslaw was oil and vinegar based and the fries in both sandwiches were not mushy with good taste and consistency.

The excelent service, down to earth setting, quality sandwiches, and local atmosphere certainly encapsulates the Steel City in the best possible way. Definitely recommend!

Was not very impressed. I got the pastrami. The sandwich was really dry and needed more juice.. more au’jus.. I don’t mind putting fries or potato chips on my sandwiches, but I said yes and it was a terrible option. It made it even more dry and the fries were not done very well to begin with.

It was the first restaurant we stopped at on the trip in Pittsburgh..

I hate to say it but Penn station is better :/ Jimmy John’s is almost better.
