The best steak I’ve had in the Bloomington, Springfield, Champaign, Decatur area. Was well worth the drive from Decatur. You start off by picking out your own hand cut steak from the butcher’s case and then you can grill it yourself or have one of their cooks grill it for you over the charcoal pit in the middle of the restaurant. All meals include the salad bar, a side item, and Texas toast. I chose a ribeye and added on a pepper and Vidalia onion skewer and choose to have them cook it for me. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Will definitely be back.

Had a pretty good time here. My steak was pretty good. I tried the New York strip for the first time. I’m usually a ribeye guy but the New York strip wasn’t bad. I love how you can watch the guy cook your steak or you can go cook it yourself which I thought was pretty cool. I’d never do that because I’m paying someone so I expect them to cook it for me. Plus I would probably mess it up on that huge grill.

Very casual spot with a ‘grill your own meat’ section. Although it says reservations required online, it didn’t seem very crowded and I was seated in the dining area immediately. The salad bar had a nice selection that kept getting replenished. For the top sirloin I ordered, it was cooked to perfection for its size and super juicy. Overall I had a great experience.

First time here. Waitress was very attentive to our needs and prices are fair for the quality and amount of food. I ordered a medium ribeye and think that this was properly cooked. Salad bar was super tasty as well. I would HIGHLY recommend the cookie skillet— super tasty! Would recommend if you’re in town!

We have been here twice and have driven OUT OF STATE to return. This is truly a hidden gem! Great steaks and an amazing experience. Worth every penny. The salad bar is amazing and the overall experience was great both times. I can not wait to return.

Very disappointing experience at Alexander’s Steakhouse in Normal.

We arrived as a large group and asked if they were ready for us, simply trying to be friendly. We explained we were attending a funeral and asked if there was any flexibility to order as people arrived, but were told everyone had to be seated before ordering.

While waiting, we made salads and some of our group briefly went to the main dining hall to grill garlic bread. Even after confirming everyone was present and ready, our waiter refused to take our order until everyone was seated.

My husband later overheard the waiter complaining about our group to kitchen staff, which was discouraging since we were patient and kind throughout.

When we were finally allowed to order, we were told the only side option for a large party was a baked potato. Our steaks were also incorrect, both ordered medium-rare/medium and came out closer to medium-well.

Because of the long delays, several people didn’t even order an entrée and were still charged $17 per person just for the salad bar.

Overall, poor service, lack of flexibility, and incorrect food. Not what we expected, especially given the circumstances.

I wasn’t overly impressed the last two times I’ve been here. The positive is the salad bar which is excellent. I was sitting at a table of 14 and we only had one Weight staff for the table so by the time one end of the table got their food the other side of the table was mostly done eating. It was quite cold in the building except for in the bathrooms. This was on a day when the temperature was probably in the single digits but I think most of us at the table we’re wearing our winter coats after a while and I think more than one person warmed themselves up by going to the bathroom where it was probably about 80°. My wife and I shared a ribeye steak that we ordered as medium. It came out exactly that way. The issue was that it came out lukewarm. My daughter ordered a burger from the kids menu and they put cheese on it when she asked for no cheese since she is dairy free. They apologized for the delay since we didn’t get the burger until we were leaving. They were genuine and nice about it. overall I think it’s fine.

We had a great experience, Becky was our server and she was very personable and checked on us plenty to make sure we were doing alright. Always have loved coming here and I told my wife, “Service like that would definitely get me to come back more!” Thanks so much!

Marie was a good waitress. She was very attentive. My salad was great! My steak was nice and tender but lacked the flavor. Potatoe was on the small side for a fine restaurant in my opinion but was still good. This is an opportunity to cook your own steak restaurant which could prove to be nice being you could season to your liking which I did not cook my own and entrusted it to the young man doing so. I’ll know next time.

I visited Alexander’s last night based on a coworker’s recommendation. As someone who travels to Bloomington twice a month from Texas, I’ve been on the hunt for a quality steakhouse in the area.
I chose to sit at the bar, where the bartender was excellent—attentive and personable throughout my visit. I ordered the 16oz ribeye cooked medium rare with a baked potato. While the wait time was a bit longer than expected, the real disappointment came when the food arrived.
The baked potato was surprisingly small, measuring only 3-3.5 inches in diameter, the smallest I’ve ever been served at a steakhouse. I finished it in four bites. The ribeye was a decent size, but unfortunately lacked flavor and had a grayish tint that suggested it had been previously frozen rather than fresh.
The service was the highlight of the evening, but the food fell short of what I’d expect from a steakhouse, especially given the pricing and reputation. I left feeling underwhelmed and will continue my search for a great steak in Bloomington.
