Solid choice for an upscale bar experience with decent food and drinks.
When The Fed opened a few years back, it stirred up plenty of hype after being named one of the best cocktail bars in the nation. I missed it during its initial hype, but recently had the chance to drop by for drinks and dinner. While it didn’t quite have the grandeur of Grana, it offered a similar touch of luxury with cozy couches circling the central square bar—plush, stylish, and perfect for unwinding in style.
As expected, the menu here felt a bit overpriced, though pretty typical for a 5-star hotel restaurant. However, the food quality didn’t quite live up to its reputation. They stuck to classic dishes without any interesting twists in ingredients or sauces—perhaps a bit too simple for items like the Fed Burger, Lobster Roll, and Crab Cakes. Honestly, they weren’t much different from what you’d find at upscale taverns around the city but came with a higher price tag.
The fries, lightly dusted with Old Bay seasoning, were a nice touch and probably my favorite part of the entrées. The burger was decent, though lacking in veggie toppings, and the patty leaned a bit dry. The Pork Belly Bites and Clam Chowder were our favorites—especially the chowder, which is hard to get wrong.
The cocktail menu offered some interesting and creative options, but the execution was just okay. As for the service, it was probably the biggest letdown—after taking our order, our server was MIA until we flagged him down for the check.
While the Financial District doesn’t have a lot of cocktail bars, I’m not sure this would be my go-to spot even if I’m in the area. For a better experience, I’d recommend heading to Vermilion Club instead.

My husband booked the Langham for us to spend a night in the city for my birthday so of course we went to The Fed for dinner. Atmosphere was nice and food was pretty good. The service on the other hand needs improvement. Our waitress was very nice but there were several issues with our orders. First of, I ordered a kid’s meal when we placed our initial drink order so it would come out first and I could start feeding our child since he gets hangry. Our appetizers came so I fed him that but the kid’s meal never came even when both of our entree came. We brought it up to the waitress and told her to just cancel the order since it was too late now and he’s just been eating off of my plate. She apologized for that and we moved on. Then we got our bill and saw that we were charged for the pretzel bread appetizer which we never ordered and thought that was just the complimentary house bread so we didn’t question it. We waited for our waitress to return so we could bring it up to her but we sat there for a good 15 mins and she never walked by so we just paid and left.

Loved the cozy, yet chic pub vibe and charming staff! We came to experience The Fed’s famous cocktails, but we were blown away by the food selections as well. When the staff heard it was my mother’s first time in Boston, Chef John made it extra special by creating a delicious Seafood tower for us! (The scallop ceviche was to die for!) The four of us sampled the pretzel, clam chowder and pasta dishes, and I’ll be making another trip back just to have the grilled asparagus salad again. So fresh and tasty! I gave ‘Mix Master Marco’ a challenge to surprise me with a cocktail, and the daiquiri he created was just amazing. (Now I wish I could remember the name of it.)
Hats off to the whole team, we’ll definitely be back!

We had a 730 reservation and no one greeted us or sat us for about 10 minutes. We sat down finally and it took at least 10 minutes to get water. Within a half an hour our waiter greeted us, who was always kind, and took our order. Drinks came in about 15 minutes and the dinner took almost an hour. Our waiter was no where to be seen towards the end of the night and I would have ordered another drink and dessert but couldn’t. I asked the bartender for the check since the waiter was gone. Very disappointed as this was our anniversary dinner. Left a very bad taste in my mouth and I have a lot of patience. We left the restaurant after 2 hours.

Located within the Langham hotel, I had a wonderful meal at the Fed. The restaurant is stunningly beautiful, the service was outstanding, and the food was really good. I had some of the best oysters ever. Needless to say, I highly recommend the Fed if you’re looking for a nice sophisticated drink and/or a quick meal in the lounge or at the bar. This place is top-notch!

Full Review:
Located at The Langham, Boston, The Fed offers a delightful dining experience with its nice atmosphere, good food, and reasonably good service. The restaurant lives up to its description as a British-inspired cocktail bar with a sophisticated New England twist.
On our visit, we found the surrounding environment to be pleasant, reflecting the quality settings that The Langham is known for. The Fed, much like the hotel’s Grana, provides an inviting atmosphere that enhances the overall dining experience.
We sampled a variety of dishes, including the lobster roll, burger, and steak frites, all of which were delicious and well-prepared. Our orders were made as requested and served in due time, showcasing the kitchen’s quality and attention to detail.
While we did encounter a minor issue with the hostess, the situation was quickly addressed and rectified by the management. The quality customer service we received in resolving this matter was commendable, and we appreciated the professionalism displayed by the staff.
Overall, our experience at The Fed was enjoyable, and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality dining experience in Boston. The combination of a nice atmosphere, good food, and reasonable service makes The Fed a worthy dining destination. 4/5.

The Fed is a solid option if you’re staying at the hotel and using the Amex $125 credit. The menu is very limited. The portion sizes are also small. The short rib included one small piece of short rib. The flavor was good but the entree itself was cold. The bourbon list was limited, no allocated bourbons available. The seating was comfortable and the decor was nice. Our server was nice.

Beautiful space. Feels intimate with velvet benches and interesting art on the walls. Beautiful square bar with friendly and competent service. Try the three cheese and mustard toastie. It got eaten before I could take a picture. It’s a fancy and delicious grilled cheese. Nice cocktail list and wine list. Great oasis when downtown

Despite the bar not being busy, we had to wait for 1 hour to get our first drinks delivered to our table. The food followed shortly afterwards. The wait staff and bar staff seemed to be poorly coordinated which took the glow off what should have been a pleasant evening.
