I recently visited Taste of India in athens Georgia (and also checked out locals’ impressions of the Athens location, Taste of India), and overall, it was a very satisfying experience that any lover of Indian food will appreciate.
From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel right at home. The staff are consistently described as friendly and welcoming, helping guide you through the menu if you’re new to Indian cuisine — a detail that makes a big difference, especially for first-time visitors.
The food quality is where this place truly shines. Signature dishes like chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani, and goat biryani often get high praise for authentic flavors and well-balanced spices. A great way to sample a variety of dishes without committing to just one entrée, and many locals mention that the generous portions and freshness make it worth the visit.
Vegetarian options are also plentiful, and classics like saag paneer or vegetable korma are frequently recommended. The naan bread — soft and slightly charred at the edges — is perfect for scooping up rich curries
Service can sometimes slow down during busy times, but most reviews still speak highly of the staff’s friendliness and attentiveness.

Pros:
Authentic and flavorful Indian dishes with generous portion sizes.

Warm, casual atmosphere that’s great for family meals or group dinners
Good selection of vegetarian and halal options.

Cons:

Occasional inconsistencies in dish preparation reported by some diners.

Overall: Taste of India stands out as a dependable – and delicious – choice for Indian cuisine in Georgia. Whether you’re craving classic curry dishes, tandoori specialties, or taste a little of everything, this place delivers a flavorful experience that’s worth checking out.

Taste of India has been consistently good for the last 4 years I have lived in Athens. From the service to the food quality I would highly recommend dining here. Managers always come out to greet you and ask how your meal is. Staff is always helping each other to make sure everyone gets their food in a timely manner. Food is always quality and quite tasty.

Taste of India is located in a very pleasant cul de sac with plenty of shady parking. The restaurant is spacious and cool with a separate side bar in case you have to wait or you’re an alkie 🙂

The food was pretty tasty: tandoori chicken, saag paneer, vegan samosas, and mango lassi. We asked if the kitchen was oriented towards spicy (yes) so we ordered mild for the malai kofta and it was actually s bit bland but not bad.
Service was good. Ambience is minimalist. We were seated right away and served pretty quickly. All in all really quite good

It’s decent. There were 3 people who helped us. But it appeared that 1 was a host, 1 was a server and 1 was the cook or possibly manager. If it was the cook y’all need to have a conversation with your FOH. They were just standing around up front while the lovely young man with braids helped us. He was sweet, knowledgeable and attentive. He made more eye contact and spoke to us 3 times as much as the other FOH people. Who mostly sat us, took the order and then told us we had to pay up front. Which I felt horrible doing because the person who helped us should have gotten the tip. I’m not okay with restaurants that make their employees split tips equally when it’s so obvious that equal work isn’t being done. You want them to be paid fairly? Pay them fairly and charge more for your food. If it’s worth it, service and food wise, people will pay it. If I find out a restaurant does this kind of tip sharing I don’t go because 99% of the time some or all of the employees are being taken advantage of.

One of my favorite places in Athens especially with how cold it’s been lately! The cozy atmosphere and flavorful food is great in a rainy day to wake you up out of the winter dread. The people working there are always friendly and patient as I started learning the menu. Also leftover warm up super well too if you want to order a little extra for the next days lunch or a midnight snack.

Taste is so tasty! Amazing fragrant spice treatment, and so diverse across dishes. They have a vegan chutney that has such a fresh effect! Bonus: a full vegan menu. Ambience is spectacular with an outdoor patio under the trees. Excellent attentive service.

Taste of India Athens has it all. The atmosphere, the food, and amazing service. This is a must try if you are in Athens for any reason. I have followed this restaurant from their Downtown location to the move to Barrnet Shoals. That’s just how tasty and wonderful they are. The best thing is that they are an affordable dinning experience with smooth vibes all around. Truly a Jewel to Athens.

This place was wonderful I loved the experience. When I was stuck and didn’t know what to order they helped me find the perfect meal. Lovely workers and were patient with me didn’t rush me to get out the door like every other restaurant I’ve been to. My mom loved it as well.

Everything is clean and a really nice environment and the staff were great. But unfortunately not the best Indian food. I was a little suspicious when we walked in and the wonderful aroma of herbs and spices cooking was completely missing. My hopes were lifted as the pakora arrived. It was so good. But, they were dashed again as the main dishes made it to the table. The tandoori chicken was just not marinated. The flavor was only on the outside, not throughout the meat. Made them more like slightly Indian flavored wings. Same was true for the chicken tikka masala. It clearly had not been marinated. And the sauce, honestly, it seemed like it was straight from a jar. Everything was edible and I left full, but my taste buds were left wanting.
