I went to Stillwater Boston for a solo Saturday night dinner before a show. The setting is inviting, and expectations—at least on paper—are promising. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t quite deliver.
I started with the deviled eggs. While nicely presented, the filling and seasoning were surprisingly restrained.
The corn and sausage chowder followed, another dish full of potential. It was comforting enough, but again, noticeably bland. Even the thyme biscuit—clearly meant to elevate the bowl—couldn’t inject much-needed flavor.
The seared salmon “jambalaya” was the most disappointing. The salmon itself was competently cooked, but the dish lacked depth and soul. The risotto leaned oily, and overall seasoning felt muted. These are dishes that beg for boldness, spice, and warmth—and instead, they felt carefully toned down, perhaps calibrated for a mild New England palate.
On the positive side, the service was excellent: friendly, efficient, and attentive without hovering. The atmosphere is also a strong point—dimly lit, intimate, and genuinely relaxing, making it a pleasant spot for a pre‑theater meal.

Stopped here for a quick mid-afternoon bite. Ordered a side of the Mac & cheese and fries. The fries were really good (not pictured because I devoured them so quickly). Mac and cheese was ok…tasty enough but you could tell it wasn’t made from scratch – it had that melted powdered cheese texture. Even though there were not many people at the bar, it took over 10 minutes to get the server’s attention. He was standing at the other end of the bar talking and looking at his phone with another staff member. Probably wouldn’t come here again just because there are so many other great places to eat in Boston.

I decided to take the T a little earlier than my show so I could pop in here for something to eat, and I wish I had dragged my sister just to eat here.

I couldn’t decide if I wanted something sweet or salty so I grabbed one of each. And as I waited they brought out a few plates to photograph, and everything looked outstanding.

I scoped out the menu ahead of time and assumed I would order the pulled pork mac & cheese, but I really did not want a bunch of cheese and pasta sitting in my stomach, so I opted for the pulled pork tacos. I am so glad I did! The pickled veggies were crispy with a great zing to them. The pulled pork is a little on the dry side, but not the kind of dry to complain about. I hate getting pulled pork and having BBQ sauce dripping everywhere. The side of queso was bland, but it was a good touch to the tacos.
I also grabbed one of the special pancakes, which was strawberry with strawberry sauce. The pancake itself is a little on the chewy side and bland compared to other pancakes I have had. But the strawberries were fresh and the strawberry sauce was more on the compote side, which I LOVE.
Both items were good portion sizes and I didn’t finish either, but I am one of those people who eats small snacks throughout the day.
I also got a prosecco-based drink that was very light and lemon-y, and I would come back just for that.

The brunch menu had amazing options, and everything looked so good as they went by my table I wished I could just taste them all.
All in all, I recommend grabbing a bite to eat if you’re in this area.

Omg the food is really great here. Its like an hidden gem in Boston. We went here for new year dinner and the food was really great. My friend who came from japan said their stake was so juicy and tasty. I ordered the pasta, it was so unique and tasty. The price is quite reasonable compared to other restaurants in Boston. I would definitely recommend this place.

Definitely a little more upscale than we’re used to, and we spend a while googling several words on the menu lol. Everything we tried was delicious, and they were very accommodating with adding side orders since we had a hard time narrowing down our choices.
The only negative was that some of the dishes/glasses/utensils themselves were not completely clean.

Stillwater in downtown has a charming atmosphere with a great outdoor space that makes it perfect for a relaxed evening. The vibe feels warm and welcoming, and the staff are genuinely friendly and very accommodating.

Even though the dinner menu didn’t include burgers, they were happy to make one for us anyway — a nice touch that shows how much they care about guests. We tried the Hangover Burger with different sides: tater tots, salad, and regular fries. The burger itself was decent but could have been juicier and more flavorful.

While I’d rate the food we had about 3/5, the restaurant is still worth a visit for its creative menu with fun dish names and plenty of options I’d like to try next time. The place is inspired by Stillwater, a small city in Oklahoma, and it carries that small-town charm in its hospitality.

I tried Stillwater for the first time and absolutely loved it! I ordered the Ritz Cracker Chicken, and it was crispy, flavorful, and comforting. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the mashed potatoes with onion butter sauce made the whole dish even better.

Such a cozy spot with great food. I’ll definitely be back!

I started off with a classic mimosa which was delicious. I ordered Cheesy Crispy Tacos from the brunch menu. They looked beautiful. The carrots and peppers were lightly pickled with a slight bit of spice to them. The pork was smokey and tender. The sauce was flavorful. I would have liked it to be a bit more spicey for my taste. The restaurant is very open and full of light. It stretches along Lincoln Street with floor to ceiling windows. It has a very clean and modern feel. There is a nice long bar area with three TVs. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

Excellent food with attractive presentation. Interesting menu with a nice range of options. My salmon salad was great with a fresh cut of fish and my daughter’s turkey mac & cheese looked appetizing, as well. We tried a couple of the cocktails from the menu, and all were very good. They weren’t very busy and perhaps that was because the host and table service were not spot on? Would definitely go back, if a friend invited me.
