Special thanks to Patrick and “T”!!!
What I ordered:
• GZ-BLFGT “Sammich”
• Side of Turnip Greens
• Sweet Potato Fries

GZ-BLFGT Sammich – 9/10
According to the menu, this sandwich comes with fried green tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, bacon, lettuce, and homemade “gitback” sauce. What I received was fried green tomatoes on Texas toast with the sauce and lettuce, but it was missing the bacon and mozzarella cheese. It caused some confusion at first, but I still decided to try it—and honestly, it was delicious.
The flavors were great, and the homemade sauce was amazing. I do wish the bacon and mozzarella had been included, because they would’ve elevated the overall flavor, but even without them, the sandwich was very good. Despite the hiccup, I would definitely order it again.

Sweet Potato Fries – 10/10
I’ve had sweet potato fries all over the country, from homemade to frozen to everything in between, and these were very good. I’m not sure if they were scratch-made or prepackaged, but the taste was excellent.
They had a lightly sweet dusting—almost like a soft sugar or brown-sugar blend—that complemented the natural sweetness of the fries without being overpowering. Dipped in what tasted like homemade ranch, they were even better. Easily a 10/10 and something I would order again.

Turnip Greens (+ Cornbread) – 10/10
As someone born and raised in the South, I have to admit—my great-grandma might fuss at me—but these might be the best turnip greens I’ve ever had. They tasted homemade, like something cooked in a Southern kitchen with tradition behind it.
Perfectly seasoned, rich, savory, and balanced. They were flavorful without overshadowing the other dishes. They also came with a small muffin-style piece of sweet cornbread that reminded me of Jiffy (but it could’ve been homemade), and it paired perfectly with the greens. I loved it and would 100% order again.
⸻
Atmosphere & Staff – 10/10
The atmosphere was amazing. There was a live band playing, the place was clean, and the crowd size was just right—not too packed and not too empty.
The bartender and front-of-house staff were courteous, kind, and knowledgeable. The establishment also has pool tables available; I even played a few games with the staff, which added to the fun. The vibe was chill, warm, welcoming, cozy, and entertaining.
If you want a spot that won’t overwhelm you but still has great energy, this is the place to go.

Ground Zero Blues Club absolutely delivered. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in town.
Clarksdale is considered by many to be the birthplace or “ground zero” of the blues. The city is best known as a cradle of the Delta blues, famously associated with legends like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, and the mythic crossroads of Highways 61 and 49.
The club occupies a repurposed early 20th-century cotton warehouse next to the Delta Blues Museum. Styled to echo the spirit of classic juke joints, complete with rustic décor, mismatched chairs and a laid-back atmosphere.
Definitely part of a the Delta Blues roadtrip pilgrimage following the footsteps of Robert Johnson. Highly recommend a visit.
I had the catfish BLT, which was a simple catfish burger with the most basic ingredients. Yet the catfish itself was so tasty that I didn’t even need ketchup or mayo for the burger. It was so seasoned that it definitely made the burger an enjoyable experience. My partner had the kingfish platter which was essentially catfish as well. But then there was a small cup of coleslaw that we both thought was the best we’ve had, mainly because they didn’t use mayo but some kind of vinegar to supplement the taste. And then my partner had the deep fried pecan pie and I had a taste of it. Even though I am not even the biggest fan of pecan pie, I really enjoyed that one and I think it was because the deep fried aspect along with whipped cream complemented the gelatinous material in pecan pies (don’t know how to call it).
There was music 365 days a week in the club, and particularly we were there during the annual Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival, so it was extra special. There were visitors all over the world attending the festival and many great bands played in the club. The amount of mess on the walls in the club speaks to the historically and culturally rich aspect of this club and of this town. Definitely a 5 star experience.
