We understand that restaurants can get busy, and we were not expecting exceptional service. We are also fine with a mandatory 15% gratuity for larger groups.
However, the issue was not how busy it was — it was the attitude and overall experience.
Throughout the meal, we repeatedly had to ask for basic things like water. Orders were missed or incorrect. Staff frequently walked away mid-sentence before we could finish speaking. Even settling the bill took an unusually long time, and we had to wait quite a while just to receive our change.
Being busy should not be used as an excuse for dismissive behavior.
When we expressed that we were unhappy with the service, the response we received was, “I don’t like you either.” That was extremely unprofessional and unnecessary.
We left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Every customer deserves basic courtesy and respect.
Our group of nine made a reservation in advance, yet when we arrived we were told we had to sit at separate tables. The tables were clearly movable, but we were told this was “not allowed” because it would make it harder for staff to walk around. This immediately made the experience awkward, as we could barely interact with half of our own group.
Service throughout the meal was frustrating. While several nearby tables—mainly white customers—were proactively given water or tea before ordering, our tables received nothing. We requested hot tea multiple times and waited a long time in between. Each time we tried to ask for assistance, the waitress appeared impatient, often cutting our words short and walking away before we could finish speaking. We were repeatedly told the staff were “very busy,” yet customers seated next to us were served drinks almost immediately without needing to ask. At one point, after requesting tea again, we were brought iced water instead. The tea finally arrived when we were nearly finished eating.
Food delivery was also poorly handled. Some of our dishes were brought to the wrong table (again, our group was separated), and even when we tried to get the waitress’s attention to correct the mistake, we were largely ignored. As an Asian group, we do not want to jump to conclusions or definitively claim discrimination—perhaps it was coincidence—but it was difficult not to feel uncomfortable noticing that the tables receiving prompt and proactive service were mostly white customers, while our repeated requests were brushed aside. Unfortunately, the food itself was also disappointing—many dishes were overly salty, and the fried noodle was mushy and soggy.
At the end of the meal, we were charged an automatic 15% gratuity because we were considered a “large group,” even though the restaurant had required us to sit separately and the service we received was far below expectations. When we tried to explain the situation—including our concerns about the uneven service—the staff became defensive, raised their voices, and told us we were being rude. Since the gratuity had already been added to the bill and we did not want to create a scene for other diners, we reluctantly paid, but left feeling extremely uncomfortable and unhappy.
This restaurant has a strong rating, so perhaps others have had better experiences. However, based on how our group was treated—from seating arrangements to service delays and the overall attitude—we left with the clear impression that we were not treated with the same level of courtesy shown to some other customers. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and reviews both their service practices and how staff interact with all guests. Sometimes a sorry works much better than calling out your customers it’s that simple.
Edit: I see your reply and it’s the same old excuse. “We were too busy to serve your table”, “we can’t accommodate the group and won’t tell you before you come”, “other tables that got timely service is just coincidence”, “we still collect the 15% tips no matter what”, “you tried to argue? You’re rude! We don’t like you!”
For main course, we got the cashew chicken and tofu spicy noodles. Both were very distinctive in their taste and were very flavorful.
The service was prompt, the server Jenny was delightful and the overall experience was amazing. Definitely will visit again.
Overall, PHOmily gets a 9.1/10. This will be our new regular pho spot!
Brought my family of 3 here and spent less than $50!
Tasty food- our favorite is the Fried Calamari( so good we forgot to take a photo). Soup was rich with generous toppings.
Thanks Phomily for a great dinner, we’ll see you again!
