Jack’s Drive-In keeps hitting the spot – Idaho Business Review
Reviews
This was our first time eating at Jack’s. We happened to drive past it and decided to give it a try. From the outside, it was clean, colorful, and inviting, especially with the Valentine’s decorations on the windows.
While it is a drive-in, orders need to be placed inside. As we entered, we found a very small lobby, with a large digital menu board, and t o cashiers. The menu options are expansive and there is something for everyone. As a spouse of a combat veteran, I appreciated the 2 side doors. The lobby has two metal benches for customers choosing to wait inside.
My spouse ordered the Cowboy Burger. He started eating before I could take a photo. As a man of few words, he said, “It was pretty good. It satisfied my craving for a burger”.
I ordered the Avocado Bacon Burger. As a foodie, it was exactly what my taste buds needed! Instead of a bun, the burger was served on grilled sourdough. It was toast to perfection and held the toppings well. The avocado was spread on the toast, which was perfect. No one likes having chunks of avocado fall off the burgers with each bite. I subbed the Swiss cheese for pepper jack. The bacon was noticeable. I appreciated their choice of using lightly shredded lettuce, instead of large leafs. Tomato was perfectly sliced, and burger cooked well. The only thing I would have added, as a personal preference, is a little bit of salt to the avocado smear.
We shared a large fry, with their fry sauce. I only had a couple handfuls because my husband scarfed them down. This is his way of saying he liked them. I’m not really into fries, and normally only eat a few. I would rate them average.
The staff member taking our order was friendly and asked where we would be so he could bring us the order. We chose to wait outside. They have 4 family size tables outside to choose from. It started getting chilly so once the food arrived, we ate inside the our vehicle.
The food was made to order and served hot.
If we are ever in the area again, we would certainly eat there again.
The place is fine, although I do find the large screen TV with bright lights really tough to read and overwhelming because you’re so close to it. There are so many options, it feels hard to get through.
The kids behind the counter were kind, albeit it felt a little unprepared for their job. The food was fine, but expensive for what you get.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have some gluten free buns we ordered or curly fries, we asked for a refund and it was serious meltdown mode. We got some money back for the difference in fries, but we still didn’t get money back for buns. At $1.99+tax each, this adds up quickly.
My children said the gluten free buns we did get were good- I was left to figure out how to eat a burger with shredded lettuce put onto parchment with all the toppings. A lettuce wrap would have been appreciated, unsure if this was an option.
I appreciate kids working, I’m not trying to be rude or judgemental, but I do also feel like there are basics one must learn to do your job properly. Unsure if it was lack of training or lack of willingness to learn, overall lack of knowledge? But in this case, given the scenario, doubtful we will be back.
