Generous with ingredients and the finishing olive oil drizzle. Worth it value
After finishing our appetizers, we waited nearly 30 minutes with empty plates still on the table and no main course arriving. Only after we asked were we told the mains would come “after the appetizer.” Approximately 15 minutes later, they were finally served. In a full-service restaurant, one expects a smoother transition between courses without having to signal that a plate has been finished.
Further details reflected the same lack of attentiveness. After a fish course, no fresh cutlery was provided, and no spoon was served with the pasta. While seemingly minor, such details define the level of professionalism in gastronomy.
The truffle pasta was disappointing — lacking depth and balance, with a truffle flavor that felt more artificial than aromatic. A well-prepared truffle dish should offer subtle earthiness and a properly emulsified sauce; this one felt one-dimensional.
In contrast, the pizza was genuinely well executed. The dough showed proper fermentation, the balance of ingredients was harmonious, and the texture was very well achieved.
Unfortunately, even settling the bill reflected the same pattern. After requesting it from the manager who seated us, we waited 15–20 minutes without result. When we tried to approach him again, he walked away. Only after asking another waiter was the bill brought promptly.
Every restaurant must be profitable, but there is a difference between hospitality as a craft and hospitality as mere transaction. Greater attentiveness and consistency would significantly improve the overall experience.
We were even more surprised to find out that he was working on the floor and even greeted/ served our table.
The food was absolutely delicious. He recommended the anti pasta, which was fantastic, with great selections of fruits, vegetables, and cured meats.
Pizza was baked to perfection with a great crust, very fresh ingredients.
Our experience was topped by a delicious dessert. Overall, I highly recommend 87 Mamma Lina in Baden-Baden, very friendly and caring staff. Spacious open outdoor patio in backyard, also covered area.
went back for lunch to give them another try since the pizza coming out of the kitchen looked good.
And it was!
Service was way better as well.
Would definitely recommend for pizza.
Review below still stands for the experience we had at dinner and with the pasta.
Just had dinner here after reading great reviews. We both felt like it was mediocre at best.
Our server wasn’t friendly, engaging, or service oriented at all.
Pre dinner drinks were good.
We ordered lasagna and carbonara. Both were so so and neither were hot. More like just warmer than room temp.
The wine we ordered was good and reasonably priced.
The atmosphere was busy and enjoyable.
Didn’t have dessert as we were just done and ready to go after the mediocre meal.
Pizza coming out of the oven looked good and we wished we’d ordered that.
No one spoke to us when we left.
Not sure we’d go back. There are way too many other options to try.
The ambience outside is super nice, specially in sunny days. Service was correct and prices are high, like in most restaurants in Baden Baden…
The atmosphere and service were absolutely great and the price is within the range. The Burrata starter was very delicious and balanced with vegetables. Unfortunately, too much Parmesan cheese was added to the tartare, so that the main attraction was overshadowed. I can really recommend the truffle spaghetti with fresh truffle.
To sum it up, an italian restaurant with potential (positive meaning). The Restaurant 87 Mamma Lina in Baden-Baden is worth a visit!
