What a unique and refreshing coffee shop in SLC.
I was reading through some of the other reviews and felt like I needed to share my experience. There’s something really special about having a space where you can hang out, play pool at 6am or 3pm, and enjoy incredible coffee in a creative, welcoming environment.
Alex, the owner, is deeply passionate about real coffee roasting. This isn’t sugary, over-processed chain coffee. It’s authentic, thoughtfully roasted coffee that feels more European than typical American coffee culture.
If you appreciate a true roast, a cozy atmosphere, great art, a fun pool table, and a solid workspace, 801 Coffee Roasters is absolutely worth visiting.
And he also offers an incredible class on how to make the perfect coffee. Definitely check it out.
Highly recommend.

My new favorite spot! I tried the iced Chai (made in-house) and it was spectacular—the flavor profile was insanely balanced. The New Zealand meat pies were also a 10/10. Such a fun way to mix things up, and super delicious. You absolutely NEED to try the sparkling mint limeade!! It changed my life! It was an absolute pleasure meeting Alex and getting to know more about the 801 story. It’s a sweet spot with amazing and attentive service. I will be here OFTEN!

Very stylish new coffee shop with a pool table for patrons to play on. The coffee is well prepared and beans are roasted in house. Every detail of this little shop is fine tuned to be pleasing to the eye. The decor and back counter are functionally minimalist giving 801 an instant feeling of cleanliness rather than austerity. Loved the granulated hand soap dispensers in the touch free restrooms (reminded me of primary school 4 decades ago). Nice touches of live plants and a glass enclosed roasting area with a gorgeous new probat drum roaster. My cap was delicious but I found the single shot of espresso a bit over pulled and bitter with an unappetizing tiny amount of too dark brown crema. Great staff and props for using Vosens for the baked goods. Pool table is terribly lit with no shade on the light casting a horror blinding glare into the players eyes which makes playing on the black felt a lesson in humility if you want to shoot the 8 in a corner pocket. Also brownie points for only having 2 syrups (both made in house). Prices are reasonable for hand crafted coffee. And reader beware… I am impossible to please when it comes to coffee so take my critique with a large grain of salt. I’m sure you will be tickled pink by the espresso if anyone but me ever orders it. Also, great soft jazz sets wonderful ambiance for shooting some billiards pretending to be Fast Eddie Felson.

Excellent and high-quality coffee and chai, delicious and substantial menu (not just bagels and pastries – made from scratch quiches and breakfast goods from *local* restaurants and bakeries), and a schedule that any coffee lover can appreciate (5am – 4pm!!!). IMO, these are the three things that have been lacking in coffee spots in this region of the city for the last 20 years I’ve lived here. If you’re coming to mask the flavor of coffee with syrup: try somewhere else. If, however, you’re coming to augment your taste experience with unique and time-tested flavor combinations from around the world that complement the coffee: definitely come here. This place is for folks who really appreciate the taste of coffee. Bonus: the level of quality from these on-site roasted coffee beans is much gentler on the stomach and nervous system with far less acidity than most other spots I’ve been.

Really good coffee and espresso, beans roasted in house, they use a precision grinder, no shortcuts.
Amazing food from a German bakery down the street that’s been in business 30+ years. I recommend the meat pies
And my favorite part, the pool table. Owner is NASTY with a cue and so takes good care of the table and balls. 4 bucks/hour to play which is a good deal. Coffee and pool, gotta be my new favorite way to start the day.

Mixed feelings about this coffee shop. Very cool vibe and with great artwork. The drinks are pricy and with that I would expect perfection. I ordered an iced americano with caramel sauce and half and half and it tasted more like cinnamon. There were also coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup. If this drink costs $8 I would expect no issues. I will go again, maybe it was a fluke.

I always get a mocha at the coffee shops i try. The mocha here was okayyy. Idk it’s missing the mocha taste, feels like a latte to me. The place it self is cool, built in wireless chargers on some areas. I like the black and brown wood decorations.
