Unfortunately I just don’t think the food lives up to the price. Is it good? Yes, I enjoyed it…
…but my boyfriend could’ve made the same steak for me at home. There is another steakhouse in town that costs less and tastes better.
The table service was significantly lacking. We waited 30 minutes for water after sitting down. It took over 45 minutes to get our cocktails ordered. It took over an 1 1/2 hours from sitting down to order dinner.
The restaurant was at 60% capacity and they sat six of us at a table right outside the kitchen. So all night get bumped by the staff as they came and went serving food. There were 20 open tables that never got filled throughout the evening in other areas of the restaurant.
We spent roughly $2500 on dinner for 6 people. I would expect the service to be on top notch at this price point.
We enjoyed the onion tomato salad with hearts of Palm to start (oh and I almost forgot the DELICIOUS warm soft and perfect sourdough). Then we had the halibut with summer squash (we opted out of beans and doubled the squash). Next, we had a petit filet mignon with bernaise sauce and asparagus. Finally, we finished with the sorbet trio, and the G.M. Souffle. We tried the corn cake but it was dry and they kindly removed it from the bill.
I would definitely recommend this place and can’t wait to come back. Yum!
On this particular visit, we were lucky to have Mack as our server. My wife and I appreciated his presence without a push. He was able to inform us on the seasonal menu as well as off menu items, but at no point did we feel like we had to get or try something. As a couple who go a few times a year, we know what we like but are also interested in what may be new or seasonal. To celebrate we wanted a bottle of wine, and Mack’s suggestion of The Prisoner was a great call. We like a light red, and this California Pinot was exactly what we were looking for.
While the new wagyu options sounded delicious, we opted for filets. I usually get the 16 oz ribeye but decided to go with a filet because it’s been a while since I have had it and I’m glad I did! My wife normally get the filet, but asked for it butterflied since she likes her cuts a little more done. My filet was a nice warm pink and I couldn’t be happier.
While the steak is the star of the show, their sides are what bring us back time and time again. The family style sharing for two means we have sides for another meal, or two as left overs. We tried the brussel sprouts for the first time and were very impressed. We also got the mashed potatoes and creamed corn. Outside of those sides we historically like getting the hash browns, Mac and cheese, asparagus, and scalloped potatoes (we love our starchy carbs!).
Mack was generous enough to get us a dessert in celebration of our anniversary, and we went with the seasonal s’mores and oh boy what a treat! It’s enough for two but we also got a trio of ice cream, as they always have a fun flavor to try, this time it was sweet corn.
Overall, my wife and I appreciate the service, the attention to detail, the right amount of casual and quality of food. Each and every time, big party or just the two of us, 801 Chophouse has taken care of us. I look forward to our next visit!
