Sixth Street Filling Station was pretty good! It wasn’t the best breakfast place I’d visited, but I enjoyed it. The best part was the settling: surrounded by big windows looking out over a busy street, with all sorts of car and driving and garage decorations all around, it earns the name “filling station.” I had a special which I can’t now recall the exact name, but it was some kind of hot honey chicken breakfast burrito. It was OK — not the best — but I’d happily try other things on the menu!

I went here two times in my short time in Wausau. First time it was darling and service was impeccable. $10.50 for a big platter of eggs Benedict is great! The food and coffee are delicious. The second time I went it was a bigger group, but it wasn’t too busy. We had to wait 40+ minutes for our food, while we saw the waitress serve people who had arrived after us. Food was great at least.

My brother and I occasionally come here for a bite and we really dig the burgers here. They’re probably the tastiest I’ve had in Wausau. It’s good food.
From what I remember, the bathrooms are riddled with plaques and posters with humorous quotes on them. That’s a plus for atmosphere. I don’t know why I wrote this. I guess it was funny enough to let others know.
The only two times my brother and I came here, this place was busy. That’s how you know people like this place.

Everything about The Filling Station is excellent, from the food, to the staff, to the overall vibe and attention to detail. The atmosphere is homey and natural, yet feels like a quiet world apart. The staff there is friendly, professional, and very good at what they do. And the food comes in generous, Wisconsin sized portions, tastes amazing, and the presentation is spot on. Whether you are looking for a quiet corner to get away to during the week, or an amazing brunch buffet on Sundays, this is the place to go.

Food is good, I got the Ruben sandwich, and even the fries were over the top! Only suggestion is the mens bathroom was smelling kinda sour before I walked in. Maybe someone must’ve used earlier or so, I don’t know, but the food is crafty, fresh and a good portion! They also have self serve brunch on the weekends too!

I had the Station Style… eggs sausage served over a bed of cheesy hash browns! The eggs were perfect and soft and the potatoes were crisp and super cheesy! A bit like macaroni and cheese flavor-wise…and that was delicious! I also asked for some jalapeño and a tortilla on the side… 50¢for the fresh cut jalapeño and a dollar for the large fresh wrap tortilla…. Totally great!
Leslie had a Land Rover…a vegan friendly entree that would have wonderfully satisfied this omnivore! Creamy and delicious sauce over portobello mushrooms and avocado on an English muffin so so so delicious.
Leslie also ordered an order of French toast for the road…Super eggy and perfectly crisp on the edges.
Great coffee too…not your typical water down thin coffee! Rich and satisfying!
The sign says “if you want a fast meal, this isn’t it…But if you want a good meal come on in”. And they are right. The prep time was on the long side for sure, but the atmosphere was nice, great people watching, and the good coffee kept coming…totally worth the wait.
For all we ordered, the tab was only $30!…totally underpriced!!!
Oh and it’s located in a converted service station! So so so cool inside! And nice outside seating as well!
Get yourself to the 6th street filling station! You’ll be glad you did!

Great place to go. Awesome food and pleasant people. My wife had the Greek salad salmon wrap and I had the hot rod skillet with chorizo sausage. As you can tell by the pictures they take the time to make it look as good as it tastes. Presentation, service and flavors are all top notch. Maybe only drawback is it may take some time to get in because the work is out on how good of a place this is.

The filling station is a hidden gem of Wausau! The service is always speedy and the employees are always very kind. Of course, their food is phenomenal everytime! Definitely my new go to after a few visits.
