Blech! I hate to leave a bad review, but I really did not care for the sushi here. This place recently opened in Metropolitan Square in Des Plaines, and I was hoping it would be good, since it would be so convenient to have a quality sushi place in walking distance of my sister’s home (Dotombori, also nearby, is popular, but not our favorite). That said, I noticed the reviews for the 5th Ave Sushi Arlington Heights location weren’t very good, but I hoped this would be better. Alas, I can’t see myself returning.

So, I give this place a 1* only based on the following experience: the advertisement is absolutely misleading. In the Des Plaines location is a huge sign that says “50% off online orders”. So, I went to their website and followed the link to the Online Order, that also announced 50% off. There was no exception mentioned at all, I got a party tray which apparently happens to not fall into the sale. It turns out the 50% sale only applied to a daily special.

Eaten here several times, food is delicious. They offer 50% off if you order online…so I tried several times from home and it wouldn’t go through. So I drove to the restaurant for assistance. We tried for 20 minutes on several platforms with no luck. The restaurant called their IT department and they said, use safari…also didn’t work. I ask the chef and the kid assisting me for the 50% discount and he said NO just for online orders only. So…we left and went around the corner to the other sushi restaurant. This place gave me food poisoning!!!The worst sushi place ever!! I am currently sick with food poisoning because their sushi was clearly not good. I purchased the golden roll and that was 100% the most disgusting and unappealing sushi I have ever ate. The sushi was mainly just rice it wasn’t even deep fried correctly and to make matters worse the meat used inside of the sushi was questionable. I ordered for delivery last night around 8Pm. They closed at 9:30 and when I received the order it definitely did not taste fresh at all. Be ware if you are interested in visit this place! There’s lots of mixed reviews and I wish I would’ve taken pictures to show how disgusting this sushi looked and how unacceptable the portion inside of the sushi was. I couldn’t even finish half of the roll before feeling like this food was making me sick. If I were you I would take my business elsewhere.

Really just not good. I ordered several nigiri pieces, and they all tasted the same: tasteless! Literally zero flavor. The rolls were very dry, bland, and just had zero appeal. Also, everything had a strange acidic taste. Never ever coming back, since there’s other AYCE places all over that are way more worthwhile. $5 sushi on Thursdays from Jewel runs circles around this place even!

Giving 1 star is too much. This is our 3rd time with you guys. The service is terrible, young guy that didnt pay attention (was distracted by 3 other people in there, possibly his friends or something) because he was focused more on them then the customer’s. Was also on his phone, as we waited 10 minutes for a fork and our waters. Rolls consist of 95% rice, and barely any sushi. The rolls were HUGE, reminded me of gas station sushi. Also the rice falls apart!
