We stopped in today for the soft opening at Chi Chi’s Mexican Restaurant, and it was absolutely fantastic! The food was incredible—the chimichanga was perfectly crispy and packed with flavor, the chips and queso were fresh, warm, and addicting, and we finished it all off with the most delicious fried ice cream we’ve ever had!
Our waitress, Jessie, was amazing—friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome from start to finish. You can tell the team put a lot of love into the food and the service. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.
We highly recommend Chi Chi’s—Minneapolis is lucky to have them! ✨

Delicious! This is by far one of the best Mexican meals I’ve EVER had! We started out with a Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita and a Cadillac Margarita both of which were phenomenal, we shared the Carne Asada Quesadilla as an appetizer (10/10) followed by our meals – he got the beef enchiladas, I got chickens chimichangas and honestly, it was one of the only times I’ve wished I was still hungry because I wanted to keep eating! The service was just as great as the food if not better! I would 100% recommend to everyone and I plan to be back again very soon!

Just got back from the new Chi Chi’s. I’m not usually one for writing reviews so it says a lot I’m taking the time to write this. I can’t wait to tell my co-workers tomorrow CHI CHI’S IS BACK BABY!
My advice? Ignore the Negative Nancy’s trashing the place. For god’s sake the place just opened. Having worked in the industry launching a new restaurant always comes with headaches, challenges, and hiccups. Give these folks some grace. That being said, from the experience I had tonight they didn’t even need it. If I didn’t know they had just opened 3 days ago I would never have even guessed it.
We checked in and were seated promptly (MAKE A RESERVATION!) We heard someone just walking in get quoted a 1.5 hour wait and I would believe it because the place was packed. The decor had subtle nods to the original but it felt fresh and modern and not a kitschy reboot. Chips and salsa hit the table within 60 seconds of us being seated. The chips were thin and crispy and the salsa was fresh and delicious. I lived in Texas for 15 years where Tex-Mex is a religion and restaurants live and die based on their chips and salsa and their Margarita’s. Our server was right behind the chips and took our drink order. We all ordered Margarita’s and had them within a few minutes. The bar was full the entire way around and the place was super busy so props to whoever was working that service well! The margarita’s were on point. No cheap nasty Margarita mix in this place.
We ordered and it took maybe 20-25 minutes to get our entrees. I don’t think that was unreasonable at all especially as busy as they were. We ordered the queso and hands down it was better than anything I ever ate in Texas. It was super creamy and very tasty. The fajita’s I had were delicious. My companions all raved about their entrees as well. Everything was hot and well presented. I haven’t had Tex-Mex this good since I moved from Texas.
The manager stopped by and checked on us and later the owner Michael McDermott stopped by and checked on us. I was the only 1 in my party who had ever been to a Chi Chi’s before but it was nice to get to chat with him and share the excitement of an old favorite coming back from the grave. Our server was incredible and on top of everything from start to finish.
I 100% will be back and I look forward to hopefully many more years of dining here.

Rojo Mexican Grill is a great example of contemporary ‘The Shops at West End’ tenants. Authentic, while still accessible to American pallets. Compelling colorful presentations and attentive service. Being a bit more amenable to choices would have been nice, however. Our younger companion wasn’t allowed to have two flour and one corn taco shell for the three taco entree, you have to chose one or the other. Also you can’t mix and match individual tacos, like at Taberna Tacos. Though fresh, the chips are oilier than other Mexican restaurants. The corn tortillas were soft and the same white color as the flour, initially my companion thought she got the wrong tortilla. Beware the refried beans use real lard. My companions got a different bean side with their tacos which I would have preferred too, although the menu states just refried beans for all the taco dishes. The happy hour menu, which we didn’t see there but found online, is not much to speak of discount-wise. Particularly compared to aggressive competitors like Taberna. Our friendly waiter informed us on their future when asked. They will be changing to the oft mentioned Chi-Chi’s in the news soon, which will give them better name recognition. Has it really been 21 years since the last Minneapolis Chi-Chi’s closed? Sigh. The new menu will be one third Rojo items, on third Chi-Chi’s items, and one third new items.

Stopped in for happy hour and early dinner, the guac was great, ceviche had good flavor but was tough to eat with the size of the shrimp and the amount if juice. The Almond chicken with eloté corn was a tremendous dish that I am very glad our server recommended, the quesadilla was also good and I’d recommend as a great dish to share. Margaritas looked great but I’ll have to try them next time.

Our server and the food were amazing. However, the dinning room was reservations only but only 2 tables were full with a 45 minute wait. We sat outside and watched almost 50 people leave due to the wait. That is more than $1200 in lost sales.

Me and the misses stopped for lunch. The restaurant was quite busy. She got the three cheese quesadilla and I got the classic beef chimichanga. Food arrived quick and was quite good. Service was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Great food menu been here a few times. Everything I have ordered was delicious. The skirt steak street tacos are my favorite so far. So much flavor. And homemade flour tortillas. Salsa is yummy too little bite to it. Definitely check it out if you like Mexican with another twist to it!

Beef short rib chimichanga with Spanish and sweet rice. Fresh made salsa and chips that were still hot when they made it to the table.
