First time here on a recommendation. Got seated quick, and within a couple of minutes, we had chips and salsa brought out. The staff was quick to ask if we were ready to order just after we sat down. That could slow down. A new place for me has to have good enchiladas. If you can’t make a staple, then I won’t be back. I ordered ground beef lunch portion. 2 enchiladas with red sauce and cheese with refried beans and rice. The food came out in 5 minutes and was very hot. The enchiladas were good and good portions for a lunch item. Cokes come in a can with a glass of ice. They served beer in the bottle. Not a bad place and I’d go again when I’m in the area.

With a big surprise today February 12 2026 at lunch time my friend and I were very disagreed with the service. We were coming from work and we both decided to share a beef soup. We asked the waitress if they could separate the soup into two bowls a day she was nice but at the same ti.e a little bit nervous. She appeoach to her managers and she came back saying the kitchen could not divided the soup into two bowls. She brought us an extra bowl for us to do it at the table. I explained the waitress that in any restaurant they can divided the meal in the kitchen and I knew I have to pay an extra cost. Also I explained to her that I didn’t want to make a mess because it was a soup and I didn’t have the proper utensils to do it. They waitress with nervousness answered me that they couldn’t separate the soup because they were very busy. I looked around and we were just tables in service so I approached to the two managers that they were working at the front of the restaurant there and, without any care, one of the manager told me that they couldn’t split the meal because that’s the way the serve and that’s it. With bad manners she told me if I don’t like it I don’t have to eat there anymore. They were very rude. To mention I have been a client for several years . I am a c

First time trying. Giving a higher rating than I wanted bc the service was good and food was decent. BUT…. Had an issue….

We got a half dozen chicken tamales, a breakfast taco and a breakfast burrito to go. Stopped to eat about a mile away.

Chicken tamales – tasty and texture was good. Decent masa to meat ratio. Chile was great. I would get them again. Not as good as homemade, but very decent for restaurant quality, especially around here.

Taco and Burrito- Terrible because they used very dark, undercooked potatoes (anyone who knows tacos knows that’s the worst to bite into), They must have been sitting out for a while to turn so dark. They didn’t smell spoiled, just very dark and hard/firm all the way through. Threw it all away. Don’t know how the cooks missed it on THAT bc the overall taste was good. But again, breakfast trashed and ruined.

Called and let them know and the girl was so nice, offered a refund for the burrito and taco… but who is going to drive all the way back up 1488 in construction for a $7-8 refund??? No thanks. I might try them again, but black, hard potatoes in BREAKFAST told me a lot—had to have been from the previous day. Disappointing for a first-timer.

Been a few months since I have dined here. The enchilada suites with regular shredded chicken was great. Add salsa verde (hot) AND salsa on top and it’s even better. Great blend of tomatillio sauce and baked cheese. I look forward to my next visit for lunch. Good iced tea, as this is always important to me.

If you are looking for an inexpensive local Mexican food restaurant then 5 De Mayo is worth checking out. Personally I think it is one of the better Mexican restaurants in “Old Magnolia”. Their prices are very reasonable and you get a decent amount of food for the price. Food is pretty tasty, not great but good. Staff is very nice, restaurant is nice and clean. Food was served nice and hot (which is one of my biggest criteria). I had ground beef and cheese enchiladas and found them to be very tasty. My wife had seafood enchiladas and said they were excellent. I also like that they serve you your drink in a nice large cup (which minimizes the amount of times you have to ask for a refill).
Things that could have been better: (1) I did not think the complementary salsa was that great. (2) I wish they would ask you if you wanted a couple tortillas with your meal (to me a few tortillas should be offered at any Tex-Mex or Mexicans food restaurant).
All and all I left feeling it was worth the money and would definitely go back. Give 5 De Mayo a chance the next time you have a local Mexican food craving!

It is amazing how something so simple can go wrong. I ordered a horchata coffee and they brought me a horchata milk drink. I also ordered an unsweet iced tea, which they completely forgot.

Another lady came by and asked if I had received everything. I told her no, I was still waiting on my unsweet iced tea. She said, “Oh no worries, I will get it for you,” and then came back with a sweet tea instead.

My wife ordered a coffee, and that was the only thing they managed to get right. One out of three…..how hard can it be?

Hidden treasure! So I wasn’t expecting much. We just needed a quick bite between baseball games. Any who, I was amazed with the authenticity of the food, but first restroom check. The restroom was spotless clean. It smelled like a Saturday morning when your latina mom was on a mission to sanitize the whole house down with fabuloso and Clorox. Wait staff was incredibly nice and attentive. She reminded me of just someone’s grandma, super sweet. They have hand made tortillas y’all. It’s hard to find a good Mexican place with hand made tortillas and they nailed it. The food was delicious I definitely plan to make my way out there.
