In 1928, at the height of Prohibition, the landmark 5-8 Club originally opened in Minneapolis MN as a speakeasy. Today, our 5-8 Grill & Tap in West St Paul MN offers a full bar, beer, wine, weekend breakfast and lunch specials, appetizers, house-made chili and salads, sandwiches, wings, and specialty burgers made with fresh, never frozen USDA ground chuck on bakery-fresh buns. We’re known for our Juicy Lucy cheese-stuffed burger, and we’ve been featured on several syndicated national TV shows, including Adam Richman’s Man v. Food. Daily Happy Hour is 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Refused to make a juicy Lucy with pepper jack. They have a special, cheese burger and fries for 8$. I really don’t like American cheese. So i Had to spend another 6 bucks for a different burger. Burger came out quick. Food was good. 21$ for a burger fries and a beer. I didn’t think I was asking for a lot. Left a bit frustrated.

My husband and I had dinner here on our date night. Our first time and wow, what a nice experience. The food was good, the service was quick, and I love the red/green card. You flip it to red if you don’t need service or flip to green if you’d like to get the waitstaff’s attention.

What I’ve always liked about dining at the 5-8 Grill and Tap, is that the food is hot and fresh, brought to your table! The burgers are always juicy and never dry and always have the perfect amount of seasoning and toppings! Including melted cheese (my favorite!). The GCB is my go-to burger! I also always get an order of the cheese curds, which are delicious . The fries are always crispy as well and I ALWAYS make sure to grab an order of the Pig-Pen egg rolls, to go! The wait staff is always extremely pleasant and genuine. Otherwise, when I come to the 5-8 Club/Grill and Tap I expect an All-American burger, which is what I always get! P.S., Sorry there are no photos of the food, it was so good I ate it all. Literally!

We happened to be there last Lunch and we had Tony as our staff. We made a connection and the staff there…Lisa is always happy and so nice! I can’t remember the other girl’s name (my bad, I SHOULD remember!) she has a 3 yr old…she is always friendly and great as well. We always sit in the bar as we like the tv’s and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

The Juicy Lucy, Nothing special but it had good taste. I do feel it was a bit undercooked.

This Philly cheesesteak was just sad. The peppers were huge chunks, the meat was dry and the bread was so soggy the whole thing fell apart. I get the bread not being perfect since it was take out but I placed my order at Home Depot and was at the restaurant in under 8mins and I live under a mile away so maybe 12mins total. It had salt on it at least but that’s about the only positive, certainly not worth $17.

The burgers, fries, jojos, and cheese curds were pretty good. We had pick-up because the website stated our address couldn’t be delivered to…we’re 2.1 miles away. The parking spots weren’t plowed. Not one employee acknowledged me. Another customer told me where to pick up my food.

We came in tonight at about 8:20pm knowing the location closed at 9pm. The female server working the bar area came in to greet my dad and I and my toddler. She never said Hi or anything, just “last call is in 5 minutes and we close at 9pm!” At that time I almost said something because I could sense her attitude. But we sat down and my dad asked what the specials were and she point with an attitude again. Lady I’m sorry you hate your job and maybe your managers don’t treat you well but don’t take it out on paying customers. Again I didn’t say anything. But after letting this fester I’m extremely upset with how that server treated us. We gave her a nice tip and were very nice. I didn’t order any kids food because I didn’t want to inconvience her more. I will never be back to this location. The 5/8 club in Minneapolis has friendlier wait staff. I’ve never had issues at that one. I could see if we got there at 850, but for us to arrive 40 minutes before close and you give us an attitude was absolutely uncalled for and unacceptable. The management needs to treat their staff better or maybe she just needs a 5 day vacation. I’m not sure which but we won’t be back. Tread lightly at this location.
