Enjoyed a wonderful meal and excellent service here tonight. They started us out with complimentary hush puppies. The popcorn shrimp portion sizes are large and the option to sub a side for a side salad was a handy. The Cajun flavor on the shrimp and chips, while a little dark, was excellent without being too spicy. My wife enjoyed the baked sweet potato that came with butter and brown sugar. It was nice to have parking available in front of the building, although we arrived early around 5 p.m.

My family and I came here for my dad’s birthday because we wanted seafood. Made reservations for 6:30 and we were seated immediately. The restaurant has a dark ambiance so if you have problems with vision definitely use a flashlight to read the menu. Our waitress was great and very attentive to our needs and answering our questions. The food was amazing and had great flavor although it did take about 30 minutes to come out. This is a must if you want fresh and flavorful seafood!

We visited for the first time earlier this month for a friend’s birthday. We don’t venture into Raleigh often, but this place is worth the trip! The crab dip was absolutely amazing! My husband had a steak with fantastic flavor and I had the crab and shrimp alfredo. We will certainly be back!

So we normally don’t frequent this place often. Tonight was absolutely exceptional. The food and drinks were outstanding. If you come here make sure you ask for Tye as your server. He provided excellent service(I hope I spelled his name correctly). As you can tell by the picture we have the swamp platters. More food than you would think you would get. The oysters were really good as well, I forgot to take a picture. Cheers to you all. Oh this dessert will make you slap your mama.

Service was very VERY slow on a week day when it wasn’t busy and we had a reservation. Waitress rarely came to refill drinks. Crab and artichoke dip was excellent, salad portion size was huge, pasta portion size was smaller than the appetizers which made no sense at all. Overall food and experience was fine, not something I would recommend but also not something I would recommend against.

Had a solid experience at this place. Wilder was our server and he was really helpful with recommendations for our first visit. The seafood was excellent—definitely a step up from what we get in Colorado. Good food, relaxed vibe, and solid service all around. Worth checking out if you’re in the area.

Birthday celebration. Typically, I visited the oysters but went for a birthday celebration and got some different items. Pricey yep, delicious, no complaints. I could ding the calamari if being really picky. It had a little more chew then typical, but overall good. The oysters were on the small side, but that was noted on the menu before ordering. I had the ahi tuna, which was awesome. Nothing beats straight out the water, but this was made to perfection.

This was my second time at 42nd Street Oyster Bar. Our server was courteous, and moderately attentive so no complaints there. I had the Shrimp and Grits, and my father had the Shimp and Crab Linguine. Both dishes just OK. They weren’t strong in flavor at all. I did enjoy the complimentary hush puppies. I’ll probably be back, but I think I’ll stick to the oysters and fried platters.

I had chicken at the oyster place. This is on me because I asked for a recommendation that was not shellfish (at the oyster place). I came in hoping to get the rare tuna from the online menu but it wasn’t available. I assumed the recommendation would be for another fish but the recommendation was Chicken Creole. It was simple but not in a bad way. Trinity was rustic cut and braised in broth? Definitely not a roux. The chicken was pounded breast thin cut and grilled with Creole seasoning and served on a pilaf style rice. It was good. Light. You won’t feel guilty eating this and you won’t feel disappointed unless you really wanted a lot of butter and roux. The salad starter was basic but again good and none of the house cocktails jumped out for me but the dirty martini I ordered was tasty and the extra olives were appreciated. The service was attentive and the recommendations were helpful. I’m not rushing back here but that’s mostly because I have been avoiding shellfish and the menu gets small here when you eliminate the shellfish. Two drinks an entree with tip came in just under $60.

Delicious food. The flavors are incredibly fresh. We love the open kitchen where they shuck oysters. The dining area is a little bit retro with a diner feel. It’s very charming. We love the ambiance and the decor. Staff is kind and attentive. Food is surprisingly fast. It is pricey but it is SO worth it for a great dinner out. It is a nice place but still has a causal warm feel. We really enjoyed the blackened salmon, snow crab legs, and fresh Chesapeake oysters.
