Yxi’s Arepas & The Chef Gordito is the Venezuelan / Mexican street food collaboration of long-time friends Yxi Ojeda and Agustin Vivanco (Zocalo). A popular dish in Venezuela and Latinoamerica, arepas are cornmeal cakes cooked on an open flattop grill to be the perfect consistency of a slightly crispy outer shell with a warm, moist inner dough that can then be filled with a variety of savory fillings including carnitas, reina pepeada (avocado chicken salad), black beans, fried sweet plantains, fresh cheese, etc. Made from family recipes with love, Yxi’s Arepas is the perfect hand-held dish whether you’re on the go, at a festival or catering an event.

What a gem! How can I give them more stars?? Delicious food created and served by great people.
Ordered the Domino arepa combo twice in two days and would do so again, if we weren’t headed back home. It’s the perfect portion size.
Really appreciate that everything is gluten free and that vegetarian and vegan options don’t feel like an afterthought.
And for this place to have warm, personable, welcoming service on top of all that? Perfection.
Thanks Yxi’s, can’t wait to eat my bodyweight in arepas the next time we’re in your neighborhood!

Wow… like wow!
I’m usually a little hesitant to try a new style food (this is Venezuelan) but other peoples plates looked great and the overall smell wafting around talked me into it – I’m so glad I did! Food truck style in the back of The Westy, but they also have an app and you can order online with that or their website.
First order was “El Plate” – it’s 3 Fried arepas, “Grandma’s black beans”, fried Sweet Plantains an Avocado Salad and still your choice of a meat (I did the carnitas). Although I really didn’t know exactly what I ordered – I loved every bite. Went back two days later and got the Papas Monterrey (Large French fries topped with shredded carnitas, queso fresco & salsas.) – amazing once again. Can’t wait to go back and try something else new.
Owner (Yxi) was also super friendly and helpful. She even stopped by our table to make sure we were happy. We have been very happy and very full with every pick and give them 10 out of 5 stars.
So happy this great food is at one of my favorite watering holes.

Got the chicken salad platter. Very filling. Probably two meals in one. Absolutely phenomenal. The flavors balance so well: the sweetness of the plantains the savoryness of the arepa and tartness of the tomatoes with onions. And the black beans are a nice filler. Highly recommend! Salud 🙂

This food truck is an absolute gem that I can’t help but take everyone I can there to enjoy Yxi’s delicious arepas. The plate is the way to go, so delicious, you’ll wonder how she made black beans feel luxurious! Don’t forget an order of Bolitas, they are the perfect marriage of corn meal and cheesy goodness. Friendly staff and the food is top tier! Now go stuff your mouth full of arepas!
Also for those that can’t have gluten, rejoice! Everything ob their menu is gluten free including desserts! The brownie is a must try!

Absolutely phenomenal. I had the veggie arepa with the beans and fried plantains. The arepa was great, but whatever else you decide to eat, go out of your way to include the beans and plantains; they are a rich, savory masterpiece and one of the most satisfying, gratifying things I have ever eaten. True beauty served in a paper cup.
On top of the clear culinary mastery on display, I enjoyed warm, gracious service, and I expect you shall as well. Please treat yourself given the opportunity, Yxi’s well deserves your business.

Great food truck! 100% gluten free and delicious. The combo plate with both meats was highly enjoyed. Ladies were lovely to order from and gave great suggestions. Ww are from Chicago and would definitely come back to this food truck when in town.

We found Yxi’s truck by happenstance and when I saw my country’s flag I was howling and screaming for my boyfriend to park and let us go there. When we arrived we found her and I was finally able to not only get a taste from my home country which is so needed sometimes, but to find an amazing person that serves people with such a passion. The food is amazing, the people that work so hard to deliver little mom hugs (because that is what arepas are) are amazing, the ambiance is great (eating with that river beside you is outright magical)… I have not moved there yet, but once I do I will be at Yxi’s truck every week! I definitely recommend it!! (no more pictures because we actually devoured our food. We ate Reyna Pepiada arepa and Dominó arepa!)

As someone who is very sensitive to gluten and dairy, I appreciate that this food truck is 100% gluten free and easily able to accommodate dairy free dietary needs. What’s better, though, is how amazingly good the food tastes. The staff are always friendly, and on good weather days, it’s wonderful to sit outside and enjoy the peaceful food court next to the inlet.
