I’ve been coming here for 20 years due to this being a local watering hole in the area. I haven’t spent time in the bar area or gotten food here in quite a few years, but I grab packaged goods from time to time… usually only in Sundays because they’re open.
I happened to notice a couple months ago that my charge seemed a little off, but mainly because I needed the receipt to upload to Ibotta for points…so I came back for my itemized receipt to find out that they overcharged me. They were apologetic, but I could tell that it was on purpose and they gave me my change back, which was almost $2! I paid cash for this transaction.
At this very moment I’m writing a nastygram in their parking lot as I dealt with a nasty lady I’ve never seen before behind the counter. She yelled at me to sign my receipt and I told her that ‘she didn’t need to yell at me and to have a better night.’ I get out to the car with my husband and look at my itemized receipt and see they charged me an additional 50¢. I asked my husband to go inside and dispute it for me because I was infuriated. He spoke with the owner and supposedly they charge the additional fee for transactions under $10, although there was nothing posted saying so. Apparently she was supposed to disclose this and I would have had no problem picking up a couple items or getting a bigger bottle. I got my 50 cents back, because I don’t like people defrauding me out of principal.
We will not be purchasing anything else from Charlie Brown’s and the main reason I’m writing this review is to check your receipts!

Bar wise. It’s a great African Bar and they also have food service. The food is great, but somewhat inefficient. The kitchen staff are amazing, but Be prepared for a long wait when you order goat meat specifically. They start grilling when it suits them, which is frustrating. Sometimes at 6 or Sometimes at 8. And then they ask you to wait an hour to an hour and a half with a $20 dollar minimum for goat meat. Could be better.

The average customer that shops here is rude and disrespectful. The staff and owners try but they can’t control the atmosphere. I guess they can’t control the rats all around the building either.

The place needs updating, not a whole variety to choose from when it comes to drinks, the bar tender was catching some attitude, so watch out. Good food, fast service, nice crowd. The collard greens could be a little bit more for the price thou. Would eat again when in town.

Best Kenyan Nyama Choma (Grilled Meat) on the east coast hands down. So we all love a good hole in the wall eatery and thats definitely the vibe here. Covid killed the traffic into this place but that’s fine cuz there’s less of a wait. THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!! Simple menu but sooo good. The ambiance is lacking but my eyes were closed as I capture the flavour of the food in every bite so it didn’t matter. I meet the owner and he was so nice, inviting and extremely accommodating. Take away is also always an option. If your contemplating getting food from here just stop reading reviews and place your order now, then thank me later. This man knows his craft. Things to remember: at the moment its cash only and since your getting real authentic african style grilled meat there will be a wait but it will be worth every second. Your Welcome.

I bought a grilled goat for 40 dollars well its not what I expected amd wouldn’t recommend it to my friends. perhaps others may need to try since we got different tastes but if you IKR western food the food from Brown will put you off for good.
