The patio is fun on a nice day and is heated in cooler weather. Inside is lovely, although a bit bright…it’s on open kitchen concept so I expect cooks need to see what they are doing. During this recent visit, the cooks were a bit friendly with the guests closer to the kitchen which made the visit more enjoyable and personable.
We prefer supporting local businesses over chains, and this location appears very popular among the locals. The two prior visits were perfect. Our most recent inside visit had two minor issues, one being our online reservation was not listed at the front desk when we arrived (reservations were made over a month prior as there were no inside tables on our last visit); regardless, we did get seated promptly. Our server was very attentive although she was a bit too quick to remove plates from the table; we were disappointed when the delicious sauces and apple chutney that accompanied the Egg Rolls suddenly disappeared while we were still eating them…we certainly would have finished the chutney and sauces, and maybe even licked the plate! Improvements to hopefully overcome…otherwise, everything was great.
We started with the Pimento Cheese Hushpuppies, which I had high hopes for. They were a bit over‑fried and dry, with more breading than cheesy center, and the jalapeño bacon jam was watery and didn’t quite complement the hushpuppies. That said, the concept is fun, and with a thicker, chunkier jam, I think they’d really shine.
The Fried Oysters, however, were a completely different story. Perfectly breaded, not overly heavy, and full of flavor. My husband—who’s keto and peeled the breading off—still commented on how good the oysters themselves were. If anything, we just wished the portion was bigger.
The star of the starters for me was the She Crab Soup. Creamy, rich, and loaded with crab. It was one of those dishes you keep going back to between bites of everything else. And here’s my pro tip: dip the hushpuppies into the soup. It transformed them from dry to delicious, and I even suggested to our server that the kitchen consider offering them together.
For my entrée, I had the Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos with a side of pasta salad. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the Thai‑inspired sauce had a sweet kick that I honestly wish there had been more of. The pasta salad was classic but surprisingly good—fresh, balanced, and better than most versions I’ve had lately.
My husband ordered the Salmon & Shrimp Scampi, swapping the pasta for extra spinach to stay keto. Both proteins were cooked beautifully, full of flavor, and plated generously.
Overall, the meal had a few highs and a couple of misses, but the quality of the ingredients and the creativity of the menu make this a place I’d absolutely visit again. With a little fine‑tuning on a few items, 2 Twelve has the potential to be truly exceptional.
To start, we had the crab bisque, which was flavorful and generously portioned. A great way to kick off the meal. I followed that with the bang bang shrimp tacos. The shrimp were nicely fried and had a sweet, satisfying flavor. One small critique: wasn’t the biggest fan of the sauce that was just squirted on top. It’s a personal preference, but I think it would’ve enhanced the balance of flavors if it were mixed in.
Service was another highlight—the waitresses were attentive and friendly throughout. All in all, 2 Twelve is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re looking for a spot to enjoy good food and fresh air.
If you’re ever in Mebane, North Carolina, don’t overlook 2 Twelve Seasonal Kitchen a hidden gem that pleasantly surprised me! I was visiting the area for a graduation and decided to give this small, cozy restaurant a try. Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but it totally exceeded my expectations.
I ordered the salmon entrée and swapped the risotto for creamy mashed potatoes, which turned out to be an excellent choice. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the mash was smooth and flavorful comfort food done right! The atmosphere felt intimate and relaxed, almost like dining in someone’s stylish backyard.
My friend went with the ribeye steak, and he really enjoyed it as well tender, juicy, and well-seasoned.
The service was great, the ambiance was warm, and the food was definitely worth the visit. Would I return? Absolutely next time I’m in town.
The food was fantastic and the price was reasonable for how good it was.
The service was really great and our waitress was very kind and the hostess was kind too!
The atmosphere-we were outside on the patio and it was a great area.
The bathrooms were clean and the overall experience was lovely!
