1983 Chinese Cuisine Serves Up Elevated Cantonese Fare
Reviews
The food overall was good, mainly Cantonese-style dishes. We ordered:
• Husband & Wife Beef (夫妻肺片)
• Poached Chicken (白切鸡)
• Stir-fried “Little Emperor” (小炒皇)
• Taro with Braised Pork Belly (芋头扣肉)
• Salted Egg Yolk Pumpkin (金沙南瓜)
• Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp (金沙大虾)
• Chilled Sweet & Sour Pork (冰镇咕咾肉)
• Seafood Crispy Noodles (海鲜双面皇)
• Stir-fried Beef Ho Fun (干炒牛河)
The dishes were solid and flavorful, though not particularly outstanding.
However, the service experience significantly affected our visit.
We initially wanted to order Peking Duck but were told it was sold out and would require a one-hour wait. After about 20 minutes — while some dishes had still not arrived — we considered adding the duck to our order. At that point, we were informed that due to high volume that evening, there was a 90-minute dining time limit.
This policy was not mentioned when we were seated. Being informed of a time limit mid-meal, especially when attempting to add a dish, felt disappointing and rushed. Clear communication upfront would have helped manage expectations.
We came for a happy family gathering, but the service handling left us somewhat disappointed. While the environment and food are good, the overall experience was impacted by the service approach.
Would consider returning for the food, but the service experience gives us pause.
The shrimp dumplings are pleasantly chewy and bouncy. I asked the owner and was told that all the dim sum is freshly made in-house, not pre-packaged.
The steamed fish is very tender, and the roast duck is delicious with perfectly crispy skin.
Even friends visiting from China said it was very good. Will come back.
Amazing food — hands down some of the best dim sum in the area. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and well executed. You can tell the kitchen knows what they’re doing.
The restaurant itself is beautifully done — clean, modern, bright, and comfortable. It feels new, polished, and thoughtfully designed, a place you actually want to sit and enjoy a meal.
Service was a little iffy at times, but nothing that took away from the overall experience. With food this good, it’s easy to forgive.
Overall, they absolutely deserve a 5-star rating. A strong addition to the Pentagon City area and a spot I’d happily return to, especially for dim sum.
The hospitality was truly top-tier — the staff was warm, attentive, and incredibly accommodating. They went above and beyond to cater to all of our dietary restrictions seamlessly, which made everyone feel welcomed and cared for.
Now the food… WOW. Every dish was memorable. The appetizers were outstanding, especially their signature duck and the Peking duck — both were executed perfectly. The mapo tofu was rich and flavorful, the whole branzino was beautifully prepared, and the eggplant dish was packed with depth and balance. The noodle dishes were equally delicious, and the soft shell crab is an absolute must-have!
And don’t even get me started on dessert. The matcha cake and pistachio cake were completely out of this world — honestly, every cake we tried was incredible. The perfect sweet ending to an already amazing meal.
We had the most wonderful time and will definitely be coming back. Highly, highly recommend!
Service was pretty good, a little lag here and there when we wanted to order additional menu items (only one or two individuals) who came to our table could input orders but a wide variety of servers would being out the dishes or additional tea and water.
We tried a number of the dim sum items
Shrimp Siu Mai – my personal favorite. These were larger siu mai than normal and filled with flavor.
Crystal Shrimp Dumpling – we always put in an order of these when we go out to dim sum. The ones here are also larger than normal but not my favorite. The wrapper fell apart pretty easily.
Rice Noodle Rolls – Beef/Shrimp – we ordered one of each. The Shrimp in the rice noodle was fried which is not normally the case and was interesting. But I do prefer the unfried version instead. The Beef roll was also pretty standard but not my favorite here either.
Steamed Beef Balls – same beef that seems to be used on the rice noodle rolls which I didn’t much care for.
Steamed Beef Tripe – one of the better tripe that I’ve had and it was very flavorful, would recommend it here.
Pan Fried Radish Cake – great flavor but wish it was just a tad crisper.
Lotus Leaf – Glutinous Rice Chicken – actually quite flavorful, this was filled instead of the usual mixed that I have seen.
Honey BBQPork Buns – one of my favorites, these were really well made and very flavorful.
Spare Ribs – well cooked, tender and also.one of my favorites here.
Sesame Balls with Lotus Paste Filling – pretty good here but these were large and came with 2.
We did also ordered the Passion Fruit Crepe Cake which was delicious.
Overall, I do really like the food here, better dim sum than most in terms of quality. While one od the pricier dim sum places, everything was really good and I would plan to come back and try dinner.
Everything was fresh and made to order.
We did come on the Monday after Christmas which was quiet and we liked the pace of how the food came out. My favorite dim sum dish is the shrimp rice noodle rolls but their version is special with a tempura shrimp! They were also huge! Lol Loved the texture and can’t wait to come back to get it again. Their dim sum menu doesn’t have every popular item like other places but I appreciate a condense list where they are executed well.
FYI They don’t do the Peking duck until 1:30pm on weekdays but we plan to come back just to try it and other things!
Atmosphere: very modern, chic and upscale. Great ambiance. Can be nice for a cozy date. Not too loud or crowded when we went (around 8pm on a Monday night).
Service: very friendly service from all staff. Most aren’t too familiar with English, but there was one young waiter who spoke great English. He was kind and attentive to us during our meal. Everyone else, including the owner, we’re super friendly and accommodating as well. The owner offered us free egg tart pastries at the end of our meal and we were so grateful.
Food: GREAT food. All the flavors hit. We ordered the spicy dry pepper chicken, choy sum, vermicelli seafood pot, pork belly with crispy skin (appetizer) and the coconut sage with pomelo for dessert. We wanted to order the shrimp siu mai but dim sum wasn’t available at that hour. (Hot tip: I highly recommend the siu mai though. I’ve had it before and the sizes are huge and very good. Full of filling and a piece of real shrimp in every bite.) All the choices we made for our meal were very good. The only slight disappointment was the portions for the pork belly with crispy skin. We ordered it after seeing photos of it on their page and we’re disappointed to see them come out half the size as the photos they used to display it. I hope they update it accordingly so it’s not misleading.
They also offered a prix fixe menu as part of their November special for $48 per person. All parties must order it in order to partake in the special offer. I recommend trying it as they offer some really good options, including the siu mai, seafood vermicelli, and the coconut sago.
Definitely worth coming again.
