Easygoing, brick & wood–clad eatery offering ramen noodles with various toppings, plus cocktails.

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to waste your time, money, and will to live all in one sitting
1980something ramen (go for the) bar might be the spot for you. Visited 3 times before, I figured i could give it another shot since i was nearby and craving ramen.
Normal wait time, once i got a seat, i waited 10 minutes to start what felt like would be a simple order but i get this AMAZING experience, make sure you get a drink it helps with the process.
It takes roughly 30 minutes for the bowl of shoyou to come out, probably the best bowl served from this place but the flavor mainly came from the piece of hair hiding in the noodles. Whatever no big deal i can floss with it later, i asked for a replacement. Waitress was nice enough to bring it back, while i wait i will play the music bingo cause apparently this place thinks we need a side quest to distract us from starvation. while i wait…finally after 30 more minutes i get…you guessed it someone else’s ramen bowl and its very spicy. At this point I’ve wasted an hour and fifteen minutes for the privilege of eating nothing I actually wanted. i pay for my drink, tip the waitress 5 dollars and go home with some stomach pain
1981 Ramen bar is the culinary equivalent of a bad relationship — you keep hoping it’ll get better, but it just keeps letting you down. Do yourself a favor, go anywhere else. Even instant ramen at home is a Michelin experience compared to this dump.

The Tonkatsu ramen is the best in the area. Broth was packed with flavor. Meat was tender, and noodles were perfect. Highly recommend.

The menu appears authentic, but this place is more like Japanese-inspired. Ramen broth is too thin, and we were puzzled why cabbage & arugula is included in a Japanese ramen. It tastes ok altogether, but not what we were looking for.
Service was great, and I enjoyed the loud music. It drowned out my stress. This is not a dining spot for quiet conversations.

We came here for dinner once with family. We got a couple types of the baos, and different ramen. The homemade dumplings were a crowd favorite, although the serving is a bit small for the price. The pork belly bao was good, I just don’t think I’m a fan of the pork belly texture. We preferred the roasted duck bao. The ramen itself was good. Although we all got different kinds, the flavors were all very one-note. The broth was creamy and rich. The noodles had a good bite. We haven’t been back since, and I don’t know that we would. I have recommended it to others for date night!

We visited on a Friday night. Busy! We lucked out and snagged a table. We waited maybe 10 minutes, but any later and it would’ve been a 45 minute wait. Either make a reservation, or try to beat the dinner rush.
They offered a good IPA from Bent Water, local. We ordered a Japanese pancake to start. Honestly I could’ve been satisfied with this for my whole meal – it’s that good.
I ordered the veggie ramen, mildly spiced. It was spiced for flavor, any more and it would’ve been too much heat for me.
The hostess and server were incredibly friendly and had a great sense of urgency.
We’ll be back for more apps.

Incredible, flavorful, memorable ramen that we will be coming back for over and over again. Tonkotsu was just amazing. The pork belly was still crispy, the mushrooms were savory, the noodles had an excellent chew, and the broth was something I wish I could bottle and save forever.
The roasted duck bao bun was similarly delicious with a slight sweetness and a slow building heat that kicked things off perfectly. I really can’t say enough positive things about 1981. Delicious and worth it.

This place was mid at best. I had been wanting to try it for years and finally got the chance to. I probably won’t be back. The place was kinda dirty, sticky tables, bathrooms were gross… The ramen was good but nothing to write home about. They also only had ramen available so I wasn’t able to try any appetizers which was disappointing and surprising for a Saturday night. There were people randomly screaming at the bar which was annoying. Overall just a meh experience.

This place can get busy, the waiter seated us promptly and was cortious. The ramen was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. They offer three different types of spice levels. The soju is delicious, however there other drinks are very strong. The place in its self is on the smaller side and is extremely loud with people having fun. The customer service was great.

I come here fairly often and have no complaints ever. The food, amazing. Service, amazing. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Even on the busiest days you are treated like you’re a part of the family.
Loyal customer for the last 10 years, and looking forward to the next 10.

Food was okay but was expecting much better based on the reviews. The bao was okay, fried chicken was very batterie, the pork wasn’t super flavorful (mostly just slice my sauce) and duck was also just okay. The cucumbers App was small and also lacking flavor. The chicken wings were good and so were the dumplings, best appetizers we got. The ramen was also good but nothing stellar. The octopus, brothless ramen was not very flavorful other than fishy.
