Finally stopped by to try this place and hmph not bad. I had the quesabirria tacos; the meat was tender and had a nice flavor to it and the consome’ was good too. The charro beans were probably the best beans I’ve had at a restauraunt in a while. They were seasoned perfectly. I especially like that they give you plenty of pico, cilantro and onions

Now I dont remember what the name of the drink I had was called but it was highly recommended by the waiter and it was pretty good. I can be a tad picky with my drinks but it wasnt too strong or too sweet.

Overall I had a great experience here and will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu. If you’re in Norman check this place out. The staff are very welcoming and give good recommendations on food and drinks.

1942 is a trendy Latin cuisine restaurant. The interior is modern and cool with fun artwork and glass work. The restaurant is clean and bright. The food is good and the prices are great. The waitstaff is friendly and very helpful. Check out their lunch specials and Happy Hour drinks. I tried the “make your own combo”with 3 main choices and 2 sides for $11.99 (see pics). Chips and salsa are free with the meal as well.

I ordered the birria tacos and chicken quesadilla.

The tacos were decent however there was little to no cheese in them at all and it lacked seasoning. By the time I got my tacos they were already falling apart. The consome was straight oil. Tried to taste the broth itself and realized it’s a bowl full of oily broth with little taste.

The chicken quesadilla had little to no cheese as well and the chicken had some flavor but lacked salt. Chicken was juicy but made the tortilla soggy.

Salsa was ok. Lacked salt and lime.

Overall I’m not sure if I would try this again, if I did I would have to do it in person. The food seriously lacked seasoning and why was there way more meat than cheese! I ordered 2 things that should have been pretty cheesy and I had to literally pull the food apart to see if cheese was included at all just to find the tiniest specks of melted cheese.

1942 uses the Too Good To Go app. Last night I tried them for the first time and bought a surprise bag. It was a ground beef enchilada with green Verde sauce on it with rice, beans and chips and salsa. It was so good! I love businesses that use this app instead of waste their food. So glad I tried them.

**Update**

We’ve revisited 1942 on many occasions.. Each visit has been as epic as the first..

I am adding additional pics of various menu items as we encounter them.. New additions include:

Ceviche, Pollo Blanco, Red Tacos, and the Top Shelf Margarita with 1800 Reposado Tequila..

Everything continues to be absolutely decadent!!

Holy Cow!!

1942 Tacos & Tequila may have just become my wife’s and my favorite Mexican fare eatery in the Norman area..

We made our first visit (of many to come) on Sunday after church after having passed by it a day or two earlier!!

Everything (service, food, menu offerings, atmosphere, etc) was absolutely fantastic!!

My wife sampled the lunch portion chicken fajitas, and I had the street tacos (2x pastor and 2x carne asada).. We also ordered queso blanco with our chips!!

Everything came out to the table relatively quickly and was as fresh as it could have been!! The fajita chicken was wonderfully seasoned, and the grilled vegetables were cooked perfectly..

My street tacos were deelish, the pastor had small bits of pineapple, and the accompanying salsa was a wonderful addition..

Our rice and charro beans were among the best we’ve experienced at any Mexican fare eatery, so those were delightful, too..

Even the chips and salsa were on point!! We’re looking forward to returning and sampling the vast margarita offerings on future visits!!

10 out of 10 recommend, and we’ll be back very, very soon!!

We were going to give this place 4 stars but after eating here twice, we were very disappointed with the food the second time around. The food was pretty decent the first time. We had the Nachos Deluxe and Tacos De Asada. The tomatillo salsa that came with the tacos was delicious but very spicy. With our second visit the food came out cold and you could tell it wasn’t fresh. The meat inside the enchiladas was cold and tough. The cheese inside one of the enchiladas wasn’t even melted. The beans and rice had no flavor. The service both times was friendly.

This is a new gem for Norman! We’ve stopped eating Mexican out because it’s always just too salty. 1942 isn’t though! It’s properly seasoned. They let the ingredients shine!

The lunch menu is a great deal and the service was great too! So happy I decided to make this the place we went to for my birthday lunch. The Popeye Enchiladas were terrific and my husband and son loved their lunch combos!

So glad to have 1942 in Norman!

Walked in and noticed the place was nicely decorated and clean. Was seated at a booth and ordered Pollo Blanco. Complementary chips and two types of salsa were delivered to my table. My order arrived in short time and the plate was hot. On this plate came with chicken breast topped with white cheese sauce and spices, a small bowl of beans in soup, and Spanish rice. Everything was cooked nicely and tasted great. Service was very good as the waiter was attentive and helpful. For dessert I tried the Tres leches cake, this came with strawberries and whipped cream. The dessert was wonderful and a great way to end my dining experience here.

Service was OK, waiter couldn’t understand English very well, we had to point to the menu to show him what we wanted to order. The salsa was too salty for me, seemed like flavored tomato juice. Chips were good. My Charro beans were too salty too. My wife liked her shrimp enchiladas though.
