I had the minute steak, it was over cooked but the sauce was very good. My date had the clams (not so good, the broth had a dishwater flavor, we didn’t finish it) and we shared the crab cheese dip, quite nice. The cost for 1 app, 2 mains and 2 cocktails was $100 less the tip. Which is about the standard cost for a setting like this one. I would go back but not a good first date spot.
To start the food is incredible! Like absolutely stunning! The duck confit is to die for. Perfectly seasoned and crispy and cooked to perfection every time! It’s also served with an exceptionally balanced sweet citrus sauce that pairs so well with the richness of the protein. My absolute go to dish that makes this place the only restaurant on my mind when I want good duck. Beyond that the chefs simply do not miss. Every entree I’ve tried, from the rack of lamb to the regularly rotating fish special, has been well thought out and perfectly crafted.
As far an appetizers the escargot is a joy, the sauce is spot on with the richness and flavor to the point that I was inclined to scoop ever ylast drop out with the given bread crisps.
And the desert, oh the desert. It’s amazing. The crème brûlée was fabulously presented, which is half the battle with a good desert. It’s flavor was just the right mix of eggy and sweet, with subtle notes of rich vanilla. The small pieces of vanilla bean hidden in the crème also indicates that it is prepared from whole beans, which is always a plus. I went here for my birthday and they also gave me a free chocolate raspberry tart that was oh so decadent and rich! Served with crème and fresh berries it was easy to craft the perfect bite but it was certainly not for the faint of heart! It’s richness could be a short coming for those who do not adore chocolate as I do!
Beyond this the service and atmosphere is exceptional as well. The staff are always attentive and kind. Consistently tolerant of those who are confused and able to offer recommendations and explain menus items down to specific flavor notes. Shows that they typically really care about the food being put on the table. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting while still staying just a bit fancy. Makes you feel like you are tucked away in a small bistro in France or have been invited into someone’s home for a great meal with friends. Just one thing, be sure to dedicate time to your visit, the menu explicitly states that they make everything from scratch in what I can only assume is small kitchen. For me this is a positive as it gives you time to relax and enjoy the decor but for some this may be unexpected.
In short I absolutely recommend for the food, service and atmosphere. The prices are decent, and sometimes even great, for what you get and the quality of the cooking keeps me coming back.
They use to have the most delicious French appetizers and food and the best happy hour in safety harbor.
Last night I brought a few friends with me and the new and limited food menu was not good and very expensive.
There drinks are still good but unfortunately I will not be going back
