Why the Experience is Unmatched:
The Antikristo Tradition: This isn’t just standard BBQ. Using the traditional Cretan method, the meat is slow-cooked vertically over a real fire. This unique process ensures the meat retains its natural fats and juices while remaining lean and incredibly flavorful.
Standout Dishes:
Roasted Pork Tomahawk: A massive, succulent cut that many locals consider the best meat in Athens.
Lamb Antikristo: Incredibly tender and slow-cooked to perfection, it is the restaurant’s definitive specialty.
Potato Staka: A comforting, rich dish featuring potatoes topped with cheese and fried eggs—a must-try for anyone wanting a true taste of Crete.
Handmade Favorites: Don’t miss the buffalo sausage, the moussaka, or the spicy cheese dip, which are all prepared with high-quality, local ingredients.
Signature Drinks: The homemade strawberry wine is frequently cited as a “top” highlight by visitors for its unique and refreshing profile.
Atmospheric Charm: The restaurant features a contemporary yet cozy environment where live music (often starting after 15:30) turns a simple meal into a “Greek glenti” (celebration).
Exceptional Service: The hospitality, led by the owner Helias, is genuinely warm. It’s common for guests to receive complimentary small desserts, like chocolate mousse, or traditional drinks to finish their meal.
Located just steps from Monastiraki Square and the Ancient Agora, it provides the perfect escape from the more tourist-heavy spots for a meal that feels both authentic and generous in portion.
We came for the famous antikristo (traditional Cretan slow-grilled lamb) and it was absolutely worth it: perfectly grilled, super tender, full of flavour. I can highly recommend the local made Greek salad, mousaka and the famous pork Tomahawk which were also excellent, with generous portions and proper homemade fries and salads on the side. House wine and tsipouro/raki match the food perfectly and prices are very fair for what you get (come hungry, you won’t leave half-full).
Service was one of the highlights: the owner Ilian and the young waiter treated us like old friends, explaining the dishes, topping us up, and even offering a small dessert and drink on the house at the end. On live-music nights the atmosphere is even better – Greek songs, people singing along, but still cosy and not chaotic.
Tip: it’s a small, popular place, so I’d definitely book, especially on weekends.
If you love good grilled meat and want something authentic in the centre of Athens, this is a must-visit.
Would happily return and I wish it was on my doorstep. Thank you!!
Thank you!!
What really stood out was the hospitality. The owner himself came to our table to take the order, with a warm and welcoming attitude. On top of that, he offered us raki and ouzo on the house, which was a really thoughtful gesture.
The overall vibe was relaxed yet refined. With great food and genuinely kind service, this was easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Can’t wait to come back!
If you are a big fan of meat dishes hands down this is the place to be. The owner is especially a great bloke .
