The vibe is nice for a nice dinner and they have a big wine selection. They also offer a chef’s tasting menu with an optional wine pairing if that’s something you’re into. Overall, solid spot for a good dinner if you’re visiting this town
The apps were outstanding—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly portioned. The drinks were fantastic, creative, and balanced, with just the right amount of kick. My steak was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor, easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time. And to top it all off, the service was absolutely top-notch—attentive, friendly, and seamless throughout the evening.
This place really nails it on every level. Can’t wait to come back!
It’s best to have a reservation but if you don’t mind waiting, you will get a table. We walked in on a Sunday evening and had to wait about 10 mins at the bar. We were seated soon enough and chose to go for the ala carte. They also had a chef’s tasting menu, jfyi.
For the appetiser, we had initially only ordered the potato croquettes, but after the first bite, we decided to go ahead and order the beef tartare as well.
The potato croquettes were flavourful and the beef tartare was soooo good. The combination of the beef tartare paired with the dijon mustard, the baguette, and the sweet pepper was divine!! So delicious!!
For entrees, we got the slow roasted chicken and the grilled pork loin. Both were yum — the chicken was tender and tasted simple but soulful and the pork was cooked perfectly and paired very well with the peppers and the sauce. It was such a superb meal — honestly, one of the best I’ve had in a while. It is slightly on the pricier side, but the taste, the ingredients and the whole experience just elevates it and makes it worthwhile.
To top it all, their service was top notch. Our server, Sarah, was super sweet and recommended some amazing dishes. 🙂
All in all, I loved the whole experience and I hope to drop by again whenever I’m in Staunton. 🙂
The Big Snow Storm of 2026 hit the week of my birthday , my wife made reservations. . . Plowing & parking were the problems! We asked if the restaurant would reschedule my birthday dinner . . . “Sure come the next night,” we did!
The sidewalks in Staunton were covered, but the warm ambiance inside was delightful at Zynodoa!
Our server Sam escorted us to a window table, so we enjoyed a wintery cityscape at night! Beautiful!
As we cruised the menu , we recognized all local wineries, local farms, local venders who support this “ farm to table” restaurant!
We asked Sam about King Family Meritage ( red) from Monticello Virginia ? I mentioned that this winery is on our “ bucket list” to visit ! An excellent full bodied wine ( $86 bottle) made from a combination of several grapes!
Onto the our meal choices. . . my wife ordered Walkabout Creek Farm Hot Honey Biscuit Board as an appetizer! Yummy country ham, pickled cumbers, pimento cheese, deviled egg salad, several homemade biscuits with “ hot” honey ! ($17)
For entrees, my wife ordered the Laurel Hill Farm pan seared Rainbow Trout ! Comes with Malcolm’s market garden papas braves, Van Dessel Farms’ carrots, and pistachio apricot chutney. . . Which she loved! ($32)
When I asked our server Sam about the fried chicken choice . . . She described a unique twist to a southern favorite. I took a chance, tried this new version of fried chicken , I was pleasantly surprised & impressed! The portion size small boneless thigh & small boneless breast encrusted in tossed VA peanut & coconut veloute ( coating) was delicious but maybe a third piece next time chef ? “ Hats off” to you Chef Laura Fonner for a delicious twist on Southern Fried Chicken !
Ready for dessert. . . I’m not a big cake eater, so we ordered the Trio of Santiago Chocolates arranged on a sample board with several dessert sauces & dollops of whipped cream! Excellent presentation & delicious to mix and match bits of chocolates & sauces on one’s fork tip! ($11)
No rush tonight, a relaxing paced dinner that checked all the boxes for ambiance, great service, delicious menu of foods prepared to perfection! Kudos to Chef Laura ! I recommend Zynodoa to those with appetites for deliciously prepared fresh food !
It’s my understanding that owners Jeff & Susan Goode opened this restaurant ( formally The Mockingbird) in 2006. They also own Blu Point Seafood Company in Staunton. . . As life long New Englanders we’re anxious to visit their seafood restaurant ASAP.
Specifically, neither of us liked the way the food was plated, pilling everything on top of one another, which doesn’t allow you to really experience the quality and flavor of each part of the meal.. As always, the cheese plate was very good, though the baguette could have been sliced a little deeper to help tear it cleanly – or – just leave it whole. I had the pork loin with spaetzle. It’s was just okay; didn’t have the desire to finish it though. My wife had the Risotto and said the bison meat was very good. She enjoyed her Italian red wine. The local pinot grigio was not very good. The chocolate trio dessert was great. The service was great. Love the farm-to-fork concept, just not sure if it’s paying off anymore.
Truly a farm to table restaurant and everything tasted gourmet and lovely presentation as well.
Service was spot on.
We had the beets , cornbread , ribeye and fried chicken plus dessert
The ribeye was the most expensive dish by far and my least favorite as it was almost as much fat as red meat. For $58 I feel like I should have got the chicken ($30) instead as my partner said the chicken entree was best fried chicken she ever had… and she been eating chicken a long time. I tried the chicken and it was right on time.
Would absolutely go back !
