Just had one of the worst meal experiences we’ve ever had. After a long day of travel from Texas, my husband and I were excited that our hotel had a nice Italian restaurant! We decided to split a full order of the Fettuccine Zingara.

It took over 40 minutes to arrive. We were not given bread or anything to tide us over and we hadn’t ordered any because we were told it cost extra. It was so loud in the restaurant that neither of us could hear each other so we gave up trying to talk.

By the time the food arrived, we were starving. We both took our first bite and looked at each other. It was awful. The flavor, the texture. We couldn’t eat it.

When the waitress came over, we apologized and said we didn’t want to be difficult, but neither of us liked it. We mentioned it had also taken 40 min to arrive. She commented that they are busy and said she’d get the manager. It seemed to take him quite a while to come to us. While we waited, we debated what to do. I needed to eat something now, so even though we discussed going to our room and door dashing, I thought maybe we could salvage our time here and at least order some appetizers faster.

The manager finally arrived and we told him how long it had taken and how bad it tasted. He asked if we wanted anything else and we said maybe some appetizers. He returned with some menus and told us he had “comped” the meal, which I thought was a weird way of saying you couldn’t eat it so we took it away and took it off your bill (more on that later).

We ordered two appetizers. Mozzarella al forno and crostini fichi. Basically warmed mozzarella balls with prosciutto wrapped around them and bread with fig, cheese and walnuts.

It took 30 more minutes to get that. (See photos.) Two small mozzarella balls and two half pieces of bread (not even toasted) with fig. They were ok, but not great. The best part was literally the tomato slice under the mozzarella balls.

Then came the bill!

This restaurant puts a mandatory 20% tip on there (no matter how the service or experience is) AND a 5% health benefit surcharge.

And get this! The “comped” pasta dish we didn’t eat? Because it was “comped” and not removed, we were charged the tip and health benefit percentage on that, too!

Sum it up? We paid $96 for two beers, two mozzarella balls, 2 half pieces of bread and 2 hours of our life.

Our subtotal was $64, but then we had to pay $25 on top of that for the mandatory tip and health benefit fee.

I feel much more poor and extremely hungry.

Welcome to California.

My husband and I came here before going to a play and had an absolutely amazing time! The interior is sleek and sexy.. we shared a delicious appetizer of mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto as we had the best paper planes..both of us ate our entrees : Pappardelle pasta and lamb chops which was so good we didn’t even stop to take a photo!

The staff were kind and attentive.. you get a 10% discount if you are attending a play which was an added unexpected bonus!

I gnawed on the lamb chops at 2am that night, even cold it still hit a flavor profile Guy Fieri would be proud of!

Hoping next time we can get into the jazz room!

Ty made the best drinks tonight and was an amazing bartender. His cadilac Espressotini Was probably the best we have ever had. He is a definite asset to this restaurant and we will come back because of him. The appetizers were great, but really it came down to the service we got at the bar. As a side note, the music was amazing.

While on our date, my wife and I stopped by Zingari Steakhouse & Past Bar in San Francisco, and the experience was fantastic. The vibe was both comfortable and classy, perfect for a relaxed evening out. The restaurant wasn’t too busy, so the food came out fast, adding to the chill and intimate atmosphere. With light, soothing music playing in the background, the ambiance was set for a memorable night. I ordered the flaming mignon well done, juicy, and served with an amazing, chef’s special sauce that truly impressed me. My wife had the salmon, and she couldn’t stop raving about how perfectly cooked and flavorful it was. The owner even took the time to come over, chat about the city, and offer some local tips, which made us feel really welcome. Overall, it was a 10 out of 10 experience, and we’re already planning our next visit.

Zingari Steakhouse & Pasta Bar delivers an impressive dining experience anchored by exceptional Italian cuisine and outstanding service. The standout feature here is undoubtedly the pasta – authentically prepared with sauce that achieves absolute perfection. Each bite transports you straight to Italy with its rich, well-balanced flavors that clearly demonstrate the kitchen’s expertise and attention to traditional techniques.

The team at Zingari deserves special recognition. From the moment you walk in, the staff creates a welcoming atmosphere with their professionalism and genuine enthusiasm for the food they’re serving. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to make recommendations enhances the overall dining experience significantly.

While the restaurant’s name suggests equal emphasis on both steak and pasta, the steak falls into “solid but unremarkable” territory. It’s certainly not bad – but it doesn’t quite reach the exceptional heights of their pasta offerings. For a steakhouse, this feels like a missed opportunity to truly excel in both specialties.

I made a reservation for Christmas, but I didn’t have dinner until an hour later. I came alone, but I made friends with another solo diner and we shared a table. It was also easier for them to serve us together. The place was very busy and so I missed most of the jazz from the dining room, but since I waited at the bar, I heard it there. The staff was very friendly, but very busy. The owner was very generous and took care of our drinks. He honoured us with a private tasting of his personal collections of wine and gave us a gift of olive oil. Even though I spent way more time than originally planned there, it was a great experience and I recommend sitting at the bar to wait for your reservation. It’s not the easiest for a solo person – it is more well suited for small to large groups (with a reservation).

I had some business on Lombard Street, and did much better than I expected so I decided to go downtown and get some pasta, I was going to go see Wingfoot Charlie but missed my street, and did an illegal left turn and ended up right in front of Zingari Steakhouse & Pasta Restaurant…what luck! I was in the mood for some seafood pasta, so I asked for something resembling scampi and a baguette, and they sure delivered…home run all the way! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆

We came to Zingari Steakhouse and Pasta Bar with a large group for a work event and had a great time. The ambiance was welcoming, the staff was attentive, and the wine selection was excellent. Most importantly, the food was outstanding. We had salads, rigatoni, bruschetta, toasted bread with burrata and fig, and of course the steaks — everything was delicious. Highly recommend for both group events and a great dining experience overall.

I enjoyed dining at Zingari on Christmas Day evening. As a solo diner, I was warmly welcomed and made to feel completely at ease. The atmosphere was enchanting, and live music set the perfect tone for the evening.

The four-dish Christmas set was exquisite, with each dish a beautiful blend of flavors. What made the experience even more special was the opportunity to connect with another solo diner, sharing delightful conversations in such a cozy ambiance. To top it off, Mr. Miglani, the Managing Director of Zingari, graciously shared a selection of his special wines with us and the fascinating stories behind the vineyards.

This was my first visit to Zingari, and it certainly won’t be my last. I want to thank the team for creating such a memorable and heartwarming evening. Highly recommended!
