Zigu Japanese Bistro in Koror, Palau – Wanderboat
Reviews
Great service. Fresh fresh fresh.
They make all noodles in house .
This place is a must…. Forget all the Japanese restaurants in PALAU and come here instead.
They also include pick up and drop off to hotel.

The menu featured a variety of fresh seafood dishes, each beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. I highly recommend the grilled salmon collar—it was perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned just right. We also enjoyed a refreshing tropical cocktail as we watched the sunset over the water—pure magic.
The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between relaxed and refined, making it ideal for both romantic dinners and casual gatherings. Dining with the sound of waves in the background added a special touch to the entire experience.
If you’re looking for an exceptional seaside restaurant that delivers on taste, atmosphere, and service, Zigu is a must-visit. I can’t wait to return!
The restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the Palau Vacation Hotel and within easy walking distance to the Sea Passion Hotel a little further down the road. It is also immediately adjacent to Fish ‘n Fins Palau Scuba Tours next door.
Zigu features outdoor dining with a thatched roof over head and peaceful views across a bay where many of the Rock Island tour boats leave from. The night I was there the water was very smooth and you could see fish and live giant clams directly under and adjacent to the dining area.
I had been told at several other area restaurants that they had no fresh fish due to recent tropical weather. Not the case here! Could I have a look at the fish? Out came a gorgeous Leopard Coral Grouper whose pictures are attached.
The fish had just been caught that morning as evidenced by his clear orange eyes. Price? $28!! Sold!!
I asked that the fish be cooked so that the meat was moist. The bar man, and server, Cris was most helpful and he came back from the kitchen and asked if it was okay to slice the fish in two. This was accomplished from head to tail.
The resulting grilled grouper was tender, moist and delicious. One of the prettiest, and tastiest, fish I’ve ever had.
Enjoy!
Built by the sea, it offers beautiful views both day and night. The gentle sea breeze adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
The food is delicious; grilled skewers pair perfectly with drinks, and the stir-fried vegetables are flavorful and satisfying. The Japanese fried chicken (karaage) is a must-try. For those who like soup, don’t miss the fresh and sweet clam soup!
With a great ambiance and fair prices, it’s a perfect spot to visit often.
We tried the gyudon, salmon don and chawamushi; and local giant clam which was prepared two ways, as shashimi and in a vegetable stir-fry. Everything was tasty
Ambience is good and the prices are reasonable for what you get.
We dropped by for a drink, and I ended up having the best gyoza I ever had in a restaurant! Also the miso very tasty and it was the first restaurant we got a fresh coconut, which also had a lot of juice and was cold. The prices are fair and I think a little better than other good rated restaurants. Bummer we didn’t want for food, we had a dinner table booked. The view is amazing!
Lemonade can be improved
Our first meal in Zigu was on our second night in Palau. It was beautiful; the food was fresh, light and delicious; and the customer service was attentive and warm. We were delighted.
We went again last night, excited for another excellent meal. The restaurant was quiet, with only one other table (a large party that arrived and ordered sporadically).
I ordered the same meal I’d had previously; tuna sashimi to start, and salmon donburi. My salmon came first, it was tasteless, dry and the rice was old. Half way through eating my main, my sashimi (the starter) arrived. It was terrible quality, full of sinews and difficult to chew. I ate as much as I could because I was ravenous after being on a tour all day, but it was more to fill a hole than out of enjoyment. I would have complained if the staff came near the table, but they ignored us, and focused on the large party. When I had finished both my courses, one of my partner’s dishes arrived; the beef skewer, which was overcooked. Still no sign of our drinks; in the end, it took over 20 minutes for us to get a margarita and a vodka lemonade. I went to pay, and asked for the prawns to be removed from the bill as they never arrived. They then went into the kitchen, talked amongst themselves and showed new customers to their seats; it appeared they were stretching time until the prawns magically arrived, overcooked and burnt. We took them to go because we didn’t want to spend another minute there.
We won’t be back, and we wouldn’t recommend a meal in Zigu. Take your money, time and tastebuds elsewhere.
