Great little place with good selection for hotpot , pick your ingredients and they cook and bring back for you. Price determined by weight of raw ingredients. I went for the Tom yum mid spicy ️ and it was on point. I saw this kind of restaurant before, but this was much easier and better than I expected, definitely repeat!

I really liked this place for my first Malatang experience! They’re pretty efficient about the whole system. You get tongs and a bowl at the start, and then you go down the line and get what you want. I would recommend seeing all the options before you pick, since not everything is near its section. I got some noodles only to find better noodles further down.

Once you have at least a pound of stuff, you go and weight it and choose your broth. I got the classic bone broth at a 5 for spicy, and I think it was a good level of heat, but I also like spicier food. I could have done up to a 7 easily. Tell them your table number, and get a wrist band for your order.

Once you did that, you can make your dips/sauces at the station next to the checkout counter. Then you can go to your table. They bring out a piping hot bowl (and i mean PIPING hot) with your food.

Overall, I would go again now that I know how to optimize my bowl and what to get. It’s a great place to go with friends after a long day.

This is a great deal if you’re looking to get an individual hotpot with a wide variety of options.

The hotpot is $14.99/lb, and they weigh your bowl by the amount of items you get (the broth is not part of the weight). There’s also so many options! Like definitely make sure not to get too many things in the first section, because there’s so many other sections left! They have so many types of meat, meatballs, vegetables, tofu, etc. I got their blood tofu which was quality. It did not taste grainy and was quite smooth and pleasant.

In the back, after the payment counter, there’s toppings, the bowls and the spoons are underneath the cart in the fridge-looking cabinet

For vegetarians: There’s a lot of vegetable options with this hot pot, but everyone gets a single tong to pick all their items with, so there’s definitely some cross-contamination between the meats and the vegetables. So it depends how strict of a vegetarian you are

They have 5 different broth options. I got the classic broth and you can select different spice levels. I selected mild, which was surprisingly spicy to be honest, but I could still eat it (just didn’t expect that level of spice for mild).

After you get the hotpot you pay at the front. They give you a plastic ticket number, and then they cook it for you and bring it over. I like that they do that because it’s very convenient.

The service was fast. There was a long line to get in, but it moved quickly. So after joining the waitlist we were able to get in line after 15 to 20 minutes. I also didn’t feel like we waited too long to pay or for food to arrive, which was great.

The inside is modern and warm. It feels newly renovated and it’s clean. They also accent the restaurant in this orange detail, which is fun.

Parking: Downtown Mountain View has plenty of lots, so it’s not hard to find parking.

Attentive service and a casual place to eat.

Came to Malatang restaurant to eat some yummy food. Got to choose what to eat so of course it will be yummy. There was a lot of selection to choose from so I was quite slow in building my bowl. But all the ingredients looked good. Once we finished choosing we gave it to the counter and they quickly cooked it up. Once it arrived at our table it was hot and tasty.
Once we finished eating it was quick to pay.

Zhangliang Malatang is easily one of my favourites. I love the variety and the whole concept. The best part is that you don’t have to cook your food yourself like other hot pot places.
One bowl is actually more than enough for one person. My husband and I often share a single bowl and we’re usually completely full and satisfied. They also have dry pot options, which is a big plus.
If you enjoy hot pots, you’ll love this cuisine. Definitely a must try and already a new favourite.

We came here on a weeknight at 7:30pm and noted that it was already very busy. After walking down the block to see what other options were available, my boyfriend and I settled to have dinner here. Luckily when we arrived, there was an open table available to us. We proceed to get our big bowl and tongs to pick what we want. It’s $15 for one pound of food. My boyfriend is vegetarian, and there was quite a bit of vegetarian options. I ordered the bone broth with mild spiciness. Boyfriend ordered the mushroom broth. Our bowls came within 10 minutes. My food was definitely spicier than I was expecting but had great flavor. I added water to dilute down the spiciness. The mushroom broth was very flavorful too. For the price and the amount of food you get, definitely worth the money. Highly recommend the place.

Great experience and tasty food! The broth (even medium one) is decently spicy, very flavorful. Choices of veggies/meat/sea food is excellent. Would have loved to see some chicken on the menu though!

Space is cramped but considering it’s Mountain View Downtown- it’s expected.
Seating on a weekday for dinner was a less than 10 minutes wait.

Service is good. Not meant for vegetarians.
Pricing is based on weight.

Delicious place for custom hot pots or dry pots. You collect up all the ingredients you want which is charged by weight. Custom sauce bar is quite tasty as well. Tables are a little small, it gets crowded easily and they start to rush you out during the lunch hour when you’re done with your food. They do have to-go containers to take home your soup if you want.

Hot Pot was amazing. It was authentically Asian. I loved how reasonable price was for the food. I only paid for as much as I ate and it was only $22 (for context, Normally I pay around $55/person for hotpot). Highly recommended!

Came for lunch on a busy Weds. Staff was quick to help, amicable. The food selection was a great experience as the customer picks from a vast selection of fresh meat, veggies and broth, thereafter gives the bowl to the cashier/cook to prepare and boil in broth of your choice. Really neat concept and modern style. They charge by the pound. Clean establishment.
