Four of us came here for dinner. The varying levels of spice were shown on the menu, and staff were very helpful to explain what would be best for us to cater to our palates. We each went for a starter (the paneer mushroom combo was delicious), then a main course with sides – the mango bhuna in particular went down really well. Staff were friendly and attentive, the food was tasty and the atmosphere was relaxed. Definitely recommend and excited to visit again soon.

We had a wonderful meal last night, that some of the best Indian food we’ve eaten locally. In fact my husband said his chicken tikka and cauliflowe bhaji were the best he had ever had. Admittedly it was a slow night last night, but service was fantastic. There were some fantastic little additions like a second fully dressed plate for a shared starter. Doesn’t seem like much, but it made a big impression. I had a (regular)prawn dansak that had the biggest and best prawns I’ve ever had in a curry. Not the little dinky things you typically get – and lot’s of them. There was a great selection of traditional dishes and some very interesting new ones – which I’ve promised myself I must try. It will be very hard to beat the Dansak however. The atmosphere is great. This will be our go-to restaurant from now on. Good job team.

We had an absolutely outstanding meal here: hands down some of the best Indian food we’ve ever had! Every dish was full of flavour, and you could truly taste each ingredient, from the fresh herbs and spices to the perfectly cooked meats and vegetables. My parents said the onion bhajis were the best they’ve ever had (and that’s saying something!).
The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared that we had a great experience. The owner, in particular, was one of the most welcoming and hospitable people we’ve ever met in a restaurant.
If you’re in Berwick-upon-Tweed and love authentic, beautifully made Indian food, you need to eat here. A proper gem. we’ll absolutely be back!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this Indian restaurant, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The aroma of the spices hits you the moment you walk in, and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of character.
We tried several dishes — the butter chicken was rich and creamy with the perfect balance of spices, and the lamb rogan josh was tender and deeply flavorful. The naan was freshly baked and paired beautifully with the curries. Even the vegetarian options like the paneer tikka masala and dal makhani were bursting with taste.
The service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Portions were generous, and everything felt freshly made.
If you’re craving authentic Indian food that delivers on both flavor and quality, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

We had a take away from you on Saturday teatime.
The Dansak nanns spicy chips and saag aloo was delicious.
We also had the lamb Gostaba Dhaniwala it was nice but it had no spice and left a powdered taste in our mouth. It was like the Spices hadn’t been cooked out.
Also the pilau rice had no taste and watery .
I sent this on a message to them as feedback and I have had no response from them over two weeks very unprofessional . I was happy to order again in the future but now I have decided not to bother because they obviously don’t care about their customers..

My husband and I made our first visit to Zhal Khan ( a Monday night! So quiet) for my birthday and we were warmly welcomed by a professional, attentive but friendly staff. We dined in a luxurious space, nice bar, great ambience and served with delicious food. My King Prawn Dhansak was divine. We’ll definitely return and highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic, best vindaloo I’ve ever had. Enough heat to know you’re eating it but you can taste every flavour in the dish. Chips were beautiful and the rice was perfect. Cheese naan was soft and fluffy and definitely fresh, my dad who doesn’t like poppadoms usually tried one here and polished it off. All 8 of us said we’d definitely be back and it’s going to be our go to restaurant and takeaway. Excellent portion sizes, really friendly and welcoming staff especially the manager who was very attentive and hands on serving food. We did wait a little long for our starters but we could see how busy the restaurant and takeaway side were. Nothing a few cobra’s can’t sort.

Went in with family who were visiting, lots of different dietary requirements as our group had a vegan, vegetarians and carnivores. Everyone had choice and no one was disappointed. Food was very tasty, service was fast and although they were quite busy staff kept checking back with us throughout. The space is tastefully decorated and looks so much better than it did. This is the only sit down down restaurant on this side of the river and is a very welcomed addition to Tweedmouth. We will definitely be back.

Thought the food would be amazing after all the hype. But it wasn’t the best I’ve had. Spoilt by my time in Glasgow perhaps, but then again, the food didn’t live up to the hype.
I had a takeaway and waited 40 minutes in the restaurant, after ordering 45 mins before I arrived.
A bottle of Cobra given as an apology was a nice touch, but a fellow takeawayer said he had waited 2.5 hours for his meal when he came in on opening night.
The place was full, but you could see the frustration in the diners faces as they were waiting…and waiting.
I doubt I will go again, as the “hot” curry was hardly spicy, and the prices are more than others in the area.
We specifically tried new dishes to see if something stood out, but generic gravy and too much red colour was reminiscent of 90’s curries.
Maybe that is in vogue in Alnwick, but I’ve not seen a bright red curry for a long time.
As my patient companion said, he could have marinated his meat, cooked the gravy and finished the curry by the time he had waited.
Sort out the service and maybe the chef, and perhaps knock the takeaways on the head until internal logistics are sorted??
A real pity I had to write this, but for the money paid, and seeing it was meant to be as good as its award winning sister place, I expected more.
Im not saying don’t go, just maybe give it a month or two to settle.
But dont expect the food to be much different from what you’ve had before.
