Reviews
The bluefin fatty tuna temaki was tasty, with nice, fresh pieces of tuna, but at $8.95 for just one, it felt overpriced. All of the nigiri is priced per piece at a higher price the most other Japanese restaurants I’ve been to.
Our main reason for visiting was the ramen, but it ended up being just okay. The bowls were large, and the Tonkotsu broth had decent flavor with plenty of noodles, though I wasn’t a fan of the corn–the strong corn taste distracted from the broth and other ingredients. I ordered the Zeppin Ramen because it had extra pork that’s what was the difference between that and the regular Ramen bowl. The broth was flavorful with an abundance of noodles.
My daughter ordered the spicy black garlic ramen. There was no noticeable garlic flavor at all. The only heat came from a chili paste served on the side, not from the ramen itself. I realize this puts me in the minority compared to the glowing Instagram reviews, but this was honestly how both my daughter and I felt about the Ramen and sushi roll.
But once you find this place it’s a delight – food, ambience and hospitality was on point.
We tried the Zeppin spicy ramen and we were very happy with the offering. The home made noodles which has a unique texture and chew to it, along with its tasty broth which was a perfect combo for this cool winters.
It wasn’t really spicy though that’s very subjective and won’t hold them to it.
Bao Bun was flavorful but lacked adequate sauce and felt a little dry at the end of finishing it.
Overall a great place to try out… We Are definitely visiting again for another round of hot ramen to pair with the cold winter season
Zeppen Ramon in Thornwood is the new kid on the block—and it’s already playing like a seasoned pro. First off, parking is a dream. Pull right in, no stress. You’ll think it’s a tiny spot at first glance, but step inside and bam—it opens up into a deceptively big, warm, welcoming space.
The vibe hits that rare sweet spot: totally family friendly, but also full of cozy corners perfect for date night. It feels like a place you’ve been going to for years, even on your first visit.
Now, the food. Those noodles? Made in-house!. You can taste the difference in every bite—springy, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care. The black garlic oil ramen is deep, earthy, and unforgettable. And the chicken ramen? The chicken is so tender it almost doesn’t make sense. How do they do it?
But ramen is just the beginning. The sushi lineup is strong—this isn’t an afterthought. Think bluefin toro that melts on contact. The yellowtail salad is fresh, citrusy, and bright, and the summer roll is a clean, crunchy bite that resets your palate perfectly.
Also—don’t skip the wings. Crispy and craveable. Perfect with one of their great cocktails or a chilled sake.
What’s good here? Ramen broth that hugs your soul, sushi that rivals spots in the city, and a menu that makes it impossible to order just one thing. But those house made noodles – that’s what’s good here! -WGH
