Overall experience was pretty good! For the price of their omakase, I didn’t expect too much but it was still pretty decent. Fish was fresh and the rice was warm and seasoned just right. However, all the fish sort of all tasted the same, like same flavor and texture. We came on one of the colder nights so it was pretty quiet with just us there. I would recommend!

I had an omakase experience at Zen Sushi Omakase and overall it was a thoughtful and well executed meal with a clear focus on fish quality.

The progression of the courses felt intentional and balanced. Starting with richer flavors earlier helped keep the palate engaged rather than overwhelmed. The fish itself was consistently fresh and clean, with minimal seasoning that allowed the natural characteristics of each cut to come through. The chef was attentive and open to explaining the logic behind the sequence and preparation, which added depth to the experience.

One highlight was the saikyo miso black cod. It was rich but not oily, with the fat well controlled and a smooth texture that lingered pleasantly. The power tower with toro, uni, and scallop was also memorable, delivering a satisfying combination of richness and freshness with a long finish.

Overall, this is a solid choice if you value ingredient quality and restraint over heavy seasoning or showy presentation. The focus here is clearly on the fish itself.

I enjoyed every moment of this omakase. It wasn’t just a meal, it was a complete experience. Everything felt so comfortable and thoughtfully done, from the atmosphere to every detail of the service.

The girl who attended us was incredibly kind and patient, explaining everything with such care that it made the whole experience feel even more special. And the chef… what a wonderful person. Friendly, warm, and genuinely passionate about his craft. He explained each piece with detail and even shared little stories behind every creation.

Every piece was flavorful and fresh and service was wonderful by the chefs. Complimentary sake at the end was a nice touch. Ambiance was great, but slightly put off by the sales technique with the iPad photos of extra pieces at the end. Other than that, it was perfect!

It was absolutely INCREDIBLE. Some of the freshest fish I have ever eaten. Jason is skilled with a knife and very knowledgeable about the dishes he prepares. Service was very attentive without hovering. I will be back for sure. Sooner rather than later.

Great experience at Zen Sushi Omakase!
The 14-course menu for $89 is such good value — fresh fish, perfect timing, and a cozy atmosphere. The toro with truffle was my favorite bite. Highly recommend if you want quality omakase in NYC without overspending

Zen sushi is amazing and I can’t believe the price point for the quality of fish you get. I loved every piece and the rice is so good. They get their fish from Toyosu market in Japan and you can tell because their fish is so good and every piece melts in your mouth. This is the best omakase in NYC we’ve been to under $100. Chef Jeff was amazing and our waitress was super nice as well. Can’t wait to be back!
