The food at Zen Japanese was awesome.
The Shrimp and Veggie Tempura was crispy and good. The shrimp tempura were meaty but tender 🙂
The Chirashi Don and Omakase Sashimi were awesome. The sashimi were all fresh, smooth, and delicious 🙂
The Miso soup was good.
The Real Matcha Ice Cream was awesome. It was smooth with a good matcha flavour.
The Soy Milk Ice Cream with Brown Sugar was interesting. It had a good soy milk flavour but left an odd after taste.

Staff was nice. The fish was fresh and it was good quality. Even their wasabi was better. I usually am grossed out by wasabi but there was a bit in my sushi and I ate it unknowingly and it didn’t bother me much. Everything from the soup to ice cream was great.

Heard many good reviews about this place from my friends, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived at noon and it was already packed.
We ordered the following:
1. Chirashi and udon (Fish was fresh. Although portion size looked small, but it was very filling. Served with miso soup and salad).

High quality authentic Japanese food. We sat at the counter and it was nice to see the chefs’ mastery as they made everything in front of you. We did a la carte style and order various items. The Cod was exceptional and of course wagyu steak and tuna belly always hits the spot. Definitely quite pricey, but it would make for a good occasion.
The only feedback I would give is the chopsticks. They have you the mass produced wooden chopsticks in the wrapper. Not sure why they do this as all the other dining wares are very nice. Service was excellent as well!

A classic omakase spot. Been coming back for years (since their scarborough location ). I usually get the omakase sushi set but i recently tried their dinner sushi gozen set menu. I would definately come back !

Met up with some friends for dinner and this was such a cute a cozy restaurant. We had the set sushi gozen set meal from the omakase menu and it was just the right amount of food. Both the presentation of each dish and tastiness was on point! We’ll definitely be back.

It was our first experience to dine at Zen restaurant for my birthday. We chose the counter seats specifically to have an intimate, front-row experience to the culinary art, which is a limited number of seats available.
Our sushi chef Nagamine san who was from Okinawa used his knowledge of Japanese cuisine, techniques, and ingredients to create a unique and memorable culinary journey for my special day! He shared the explanations of each item. The toppings are traditional, limited mostly to a keen swipe of soy.
We also had the opportunity to have a friendly conversation with Zen Restaurant owner/chef Kashiwabara san who’s a Japanese sushi chef with over 40 years of experience!
We highly recommend this place it’s authentic and we had that Japanese touch because all staff were Japanese! Lived in Japan for 30 years and never could think there would be a place like this in Markham Canada. Amazing restaurant and we ordered the “Gozen” very well put together for that price and we ordered Asahi beer !!

Had an amazing omakase lunch at Zen. They have a 3-course $79 lunch special (you pick sushi or sashimi) with a set of appetizers like miso soup, tempura, vegetables, etc. The sushi is omakase style every piece was fresh, finely cut, and had a hint of wasabi they put in each piece of sushi, an authentic taste.
The vibe is calm and classy, great for date night or a treat-yourself evening. Love the modern japanese decor inside too. Lots of seating and quite spacious.
