We have 4 different waiters/waitresses. Definitely did not know who was for our table.
Waited about 20 minutes before someone came to get my order. It was a pain to get the wait staff attention since it felt like they kept avoiding my table.
Order a Metairie roll for 10 dollars. The rice was dry and not flavored well, it had A LOT of eel sauce covering the taste of the tuna. It was not worth it at all.
I also got the zen tonkotsu ramen. The bowl had a TON of fried onions all over it to where you can’t taste anything but onion soup. It had mushrooms in it but they were SOUR. The egg was hard boiled (overcooked). Noodles were soggy which told me that it sat there for a while before they brought it out. Finally the charsu pork was a piece of boiled pork thrown into the soup bowl.
Getting the check or refills for drinks was miserable. They had a lot of staff in the lobby but they were conversing among themselves.
Definitely not coming back
I thought this was maybe just a bad day or maybe their imported seafood is just that bad. So I went again, and decided to just get chicken ramen, very simple. Broth, again, was fine. But the chicken was actually 100% inedible, I was able to eat the seafood last time, but this chicken? Was actually inedible.. I’ve never been not able to bite through a piece of chicken before.
The service is… Not good. The first time was decent, no complaints. The second time? Took forever to take my order, even though it was not very busy. Didn’t get a single refill. And had to put my wallet and card out on the table so the manager would see and check me out..
My partner got the hibachi chicken. The rice tasted like white rice but a bit sweet, very odd. Chicken was ok, noodles ok. Nothing insane, nothing horrible.
Don’t get the ramen. Very disappointed.. I would’ve tried a 3rd time on yet another ramen.. but the inexcusable inedible chicken with the horrible service.. I’m not going back.
The atmosphere is OK. They play music pretty loud, it’s very hip hop type music, they play pretty crude songs that contain lyrics on intercourse and curse words. Which I don’t mind but odd to hear when kids are around. Also have shared typed booth system, which I hate when packed, which it wasn’t thankfully.
We were immediately greeted upon entering by Marie, who sat us and worked with us on getting in and out quickly & efficiently.
The food was ON POINT – fresh, tender and flavorful sashimi bowl, a custom eel roll without rice and the Rock n Roll were our combined order. Note you can ask for fresh-made wasabi and it is a game changer!
Reasonably priced and again, excellent service. Highly recommend and will be going back myself when I find myself in the area!
The serving sizes have dwindled so pitifully —even Zen is absolute cheapo, currently, on their rice servings. So sad! Ugh!!
The rainbow bowl used to be beautiful and lavish. My family was amazed at the amount of food it was for the price, before it went sky-high. These days everything is “cheaper and more expensive”. Their prices have gone up around 30-35% and their servings have decreased about 40%
———WOW!!! Terrible.
It was without a question. Zen was a place to go! Now it’s more a place to avoid… Like a poor McDonald’s. Why even continue trying a place who is showing a steady decline in care for their returning customers.
Less food for higher costs. The simple mathematics is recipe for failure and avoidance. Stop it, management….yesterday.
Your serving size on rice is so bad it’s enough to keep me driven away (and I love my rice; you’re an Asian cuisine and you’re holding back on your rice????? So sad!)
Seaweed salad amount is down about 50% as well. SMH. Change that, too!
I’m done. Having to cater to places who hold back on serving their customers with Mickey Mouse servings. YIKES.
Adios, Zen.
