At Zazu, people can expect a “fine dining” type of food in a relaxed public atmosphere. “We do a lot of different comfort foods from around the United States and a couple of different ones from around the world. We make everything from scratch that we can, and we use as much local produce as possible.” Zazu has teamed up with Opelika Grows, Alabama Seafood Co., and Oakview Farms Granary for the produce for the restaurant.

We ordered the Hush Puppies, which were described as being served with Conecuh sausage, jalapeño jam, and whipped cream cheese. Unfortunately, the only enjoyable element was the whipped cream cheese and that isn’t saying much. I expected the hush puppies to contain more than just a trace of Conecuh sausage, but they didn’t. They essentially tasted like overcooked, standard hush puppies.
For our entrées, we chose the Grilled Fish Tacos, which included fresh cabbage, pico de gallo, jalapeño, cilantro, and lime. The dish was disappointing. The fish lacked seasoning and flavor, and the pico de gallo seemed as though it had been sitting out too long, as it had an unusual, almost wine-like taste.
Overall, nothing about this experience would encourage me to return or recommend the establishment to others. The only positive aspects were that the food arrived hot and the checkout process was quick so we could leave.
My son ordered the Pimento Burger with Duck fries, and it was everything you’d hope for and more—juicy, flavorful, and topped with the perfect amount of creamy pimento cheese. The Duck fries added an extra level of richness, cooked to perfection with a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior.
I went for the Brisket Sandwich with fries, and it was a revelation. The brisket was tender and smoky, paired with just the right amount of sauce to complement but not overwhelm the meat. The fries were classic and delicious, a satisfying side to a standout sandwich.
Every detail, from the food presentation to the careful attention of our server, made this meal memorable. We’re already planning our next visit!
First time eating here. The food was AH-MAZ-ING! We had the spring rolls, portobello mushrooms, the Gambler burger, huspuppies, and fries. Definitely one of our new favorites in town. Everything was hot, fresh, and the adult beverages are generous.
Kenneth (KP) was our server. He was on point! He had a full section but was calm, took his time, we never felt rushed, and he answered all of our questions. Our drinks were never empty, he checked on us often, and was very kind. Thank you!
