Food and service were good. Group pf 5 adults went to celebrate a birthday. Two of us order a total of 3 cocktails, one had a sprite, and the other two had water. We ordered 2 apps plus our main dishes (no specials). Final bill came to $66 per person and included an egregious 4% service charge. This isn’t a “service fee”, it’s an insult!

Zaza has been a favorite of ours for a few years now. The eggplant parmesan never disappoints. I am a fan of seafood so I always get either one of their fish dishes or something with their jumbo shrimp. They changed their bread in the last year or two and it is not as good as their bread before but the olive oil and parmesan cheese is very good. We prefer eating in the main area vs. the covered area. The staff gas always been very considerate. Btw.. they also do takeout and we you great advantage of that during the pandemic but also after if we just wanted a nice meal at home. Overall, just a great little place to go.

Literally the best ever !!
I’m obsessed with the artichoke heart appetizer!!
The pasta is home made and it’s GOOD.
Their bruschetta is so unique and delicious I’m drooling just thinking about it again.
The only thing is the atmosphere inside…
I’d love to sit down and eat here but, It’s very dark and dreary, almost like they’re trying to create a romantic vibe but what about a single mom with 3 toddlers? I feel uncomfortable sitting alone there with the kids and wish it was just a little more bright and welcoming for everyone and kind of smells like an old moldy carpet or something inside.

Our Server was Wonderful! The space is nice, cozy and clean. I went specifically because I was craving the stuffed artichoke and brought my Mom along because I saw they had risotto, which she loves. The food was mediocre at best. The risotto appetizer ($16) was like chicken with a bit of rice, albeit “not bad” tasting. The half dozen baked clams ($11) pic is self explanatory in that they were baby clams, was no clam in the one I tried, no garlic, no butter, nothing except dry breadcrumbs. The artichoke ($15) was a huge miss in that the white sauce was pretty flavorless (bit of same sauce on clams) with the same breadcrumbs and the choke wasn’t cleaned so before eating the artichoke heart at the end, you had to clean it yourself which then had nothing on it. All in all don’t think I’ll be back.

My wife and I were on the hunt for the perfect spot for a romantic date night, and Zaza came highly recommended. We made sure to reserve our seats in advance, and upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by the bustling atmosphere of the restaurant. Though the noise level was slightly higher than expected, it added to the lively ambiance and didn’t detract from our overall experience.

To kick off our evening, we indulged in some expertly crafted cocktails. I opted for the Old Fashioned, while my wife enjoyed the Manhattan. Both drinks were impeccably mixed, boasting robust flavors that set the tone for the culinary delights to come.

For our appetizers, we decided to sample the baked oysters and scallops. While the oysters were decent, it was the scallops that truly stole the show. Cooked to perfection, they were tender, succulent, and bursting with flavor. In fact, I’d go as far as to rate them a solid 10 out of 10 – a rare accolade from someone who’s typically reserved in their praise.

Moving on to the main course, my wife opted for the lobster ravioli, while I selected the seabass. Both dishes were nothing short of exceptional, showcasing the skillful execution and authentic flavors that Zaza is renowned for. We found ourselves savoring every bite, ultimately cleaning our plates – a testament to the quality and taste of the cuisine.

To round off our meal on a sweet note, we followed our server’s recommendation and indulged in the tiramisu and chocolate truffle desserts. The tiramisu was rich and creamy, while the chocolate truffle was a decadent delight. Though tempted by the soufflé, we decided to save it for our next visit – a testament to our certainty that we’ll be returning to Zaza in the near future.

our experience at Zaza surpassed all expectations, making it the quintessential Italian dining destination for any occasion. From the impeccable service to the exquisite cuisine, every aspect of our evening was truly unforgettable. Zaza has undoubtedly earned its place as our go-to spot for Italian cuisine, and we can’t wait to return for another memorable dining experience. Grazie mille, Zaza, for an evening we won’t soon forget!

Nice Italian place. Clean and inviting. Staff is attentive and helpful. Scallops app is delicious. Most entrées were very good and flavorful. Desserts were delicious. Creme Brulee was the star of the night! We will definitely be returning.

Experience was fine, but nothing to write home about. Food and service were adequate but we felt like the experience was overpriced. There are better options in the area.

Pros: Some elements of fine dining experience – nice presentation, free bread, attentive waitstaff, and food was reasonably good.

Minor qualms: Cocktails were $15 a piece and were mediocre at best. Portions were small for the price compared to other Italian restaurants.

Reason for score: I believe the meatballs were undercooked (partially raw) and didn’t eat them. We were reassured by the kitchen (via our server), that they were not undercooked – but we chose not to eat them anyway and we didn’t receive any offer for discount, item removal from the bill or any complementary item as a consolation. In a time of shrinkflation and rising food costs, its small stuff like this that confirms why I won’t be returning anytime soon.

If you saw my photo you would say boy does that look good. That’s what I thought when the steak sandwich was put in front of me. Unfortunately it was one of the worst steak sandwiches I’ve ever had. The charbroiled steak was very thin and overcooked. Well done, flavorless and one of the driest sandwiches I have ever eaten. Finished 2 glasses of water before my beer. It’s supposed to be on garlic bread? Not mine. Just toasted bread. So dry. So dry. So dry. Maybe try the pasta.

While we understand that restaurants are short staffed and doing the best they can, we had a reservation and waited 20 minutes before we were seated, and the hostess was not wearing a mask . Our server, who informed us she wasn’t normally a server, did the best she could but didn’t check in and wasn’t well versed in the menu. We were seated outside, which wasn’t bad. However, it became uncomfortable when two employees were having an argument in front of us and other guests . Overall, the food was good , but the poor service we encountered, unfortunately made the experience less enjoyable.

Zaza’s Clarendon Hills is a 10 out of 10. I started with the “Paper Plane” cocktail, which was expertly crafted and perfectly balanced—an ideal way to begin the evening.

For my main course, the “Sea Bass Capesante” was a standout. The sea bass was beautifully cooked, tender, and flavorful, paired with jumbo shrimp, scallops, and a vibrant mix of peppers and spinach. The light white wine sauce brought everything together, and the side of linguine was a perfect complement. Every bite felt thoughtful and authentic.

The prices are more than reasonable especially considering the large portion sizes and high-quality of the dishes they serve.

The service was attentive and welcoming, and the ambiance struck the perfect balance—elegant enough for a date night but still relaxed and approachable for a casual group gathering. Zaza’s delivers an exceptional dining experience worth savoring.
