Fantastic, authentic Turkish food! The flavors were spot on, portions were generous, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. This is a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant with great food at affordable prices and an amazing staff. Our food server, Mahmut, was excellent. We even met the owner, Zaza, he was fantastic. If you’re coming with a group, it’s best to make a reservation because the restaurant fills up quickly. The food is excellent loved the hummus and pide, and the baklava is absolutely amazing. The portions are very generous. The atmosphere truly feels authentic; it reminded us of being in Turkey when we visited Izmir. It felt like dining at a genuine Turkish restaurant in Turkey. We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend it!

I don’t leave many reviews but felt Zaza was well deserving of one. Having the opportunity to travel the world and experiencing different cultures and restaurants, Zaza has brought the authenticity of Türkiye to Toms River, NJ. I have been to several Turkish restaurants, most notably in London, UK to experience the cuisine. What I found here at Zaza rivals those same restaurants. From the atmosphere, the menu, the staff friendliness to the amazing flavors and style of cooking once your food is presented. Especially the charcoal grill at the front of the restaurant. We share the small mixed appetizer comprised of labne, beet yoghurt dip, eggplant in tomato sauce, hummus & babaganoush as well as the falafel. The mixed dips were delectable while the falafel was light and pillowy. For dinner we chose the Zaza Special (a mixed grill offering for 2) that feeds about 4 people. Mouthwatering is an understatement especially when all those flavors drip down into the perfect rice underneath. Not to mention its grilled first and then finished in a extra thinly baked bread crust. We couldn’t stop there because we were caught off guard by the scale of the Sucuklu (Turkish Sausage flatbread). Only to finish off our meal with their Turkish coffee and Baklava filled with pistachios and dusted with cocoa powder. Highly recommend Zaza for dinner or a quick lunch with the wraps from the grill at the front of the restaurant.

A truly Turkish experience through and through from atmosphere to food. Absolutely stunning interior I don’t think I have ever seen such a tastefully decorated restaurant in the ocean country region. Food was decadent and contained all of the important tastes you would expect of Turkish cuisine. Perfectly timed service of the various courses we ordered and the portions were not disappointing for what you are actually getting. The service was fast and attentive without bothersome and looming. Will definitely return again soon.

These are not the same owners from the Crystal Diner! The restaurant is tastefully decorated with the kitchen area up front. The food is delicious! Soups are fresh, mets are seasoned to perfection, and the bread is hot served with dipping sauce and olives. The deserts are made in the store and are so tasty paired with Turkish coffee. Pricing is reasonable! Give Zara a try you won’t be sorry.

The food, service, and atmosphere were absolutely amazing! I felt like I was dining in a castle. Omar was super attentive and on point with the recommendations. I got the 29 mixed grill and it was absolutely incredible my favorite was the lamb shank grilled to perfection. I also really enjoyed the yogurt dipping sauce and eggplant dipping. We will be back! Pistachio baclava was a great dessert!

At the time of my order, there wasn’t an online ordering option yet, so be prepared to call it in. Also, while the menu lists numbers next to items, you can’t order by number alone—make sure you know the item names, especially if you’re ordering for a group.
The hostess was well-mannered and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere felt warm and relaxed. The restaurant is laid out in two distinct sections: a café-style front area that’s perfect for coffee and dessert, and a more traditional dining area that’s casual but still polished. The front café smells incredible thanks to a large, beautiful Turkish coffee machine, and there are several glass display cases filled with desserts and prepared foods that are hard to ignore.
Now to the food—everything was packaged properly with no spills.
The appetizer was stuffed grape leaves, and they were excellent—clearly hand-rolled and full of flavor.
Entrée #1: Chicken shish with rice and salad
Entrée #2: Mixed lamb grill for one (pictured), also with rice and salad
Both meats were delicious. The seasoning tasted authentic without being overpowering, and the light char on the grill was absolutely spot on.
Dessert included cold baklava and a milk/custard-style dessert, both of which were fantastic and a perfect way to finish the meal.
All in all, this was a better-than-expected experience, even as takeout. The food was so good that I’m genuinely looking forward to going back and exploring more of their extensive menu.
