Last night I went to dinner at Saru, a restaurant with a Michelin mention, and the experience was outstanding. The concept is very interesting: the menu focuses mainly on udon, prepared in different styles cold, in broth, or in creamy versions.
We tried three dishes: a chicken udon that our server recommended, a uni udon, and a crab udon. Honestly, I can’t complain about any of them. All three were incredible. If I had to choose a favorite, it would definitely be the uni, but every dish had spectacular flavor.
We also ordered a couple of mocktails, some tea, and started with a crab appetizer that was amazing. Everything tasted extremely fresh and clearly handmade.
Now I completely understand why they have a Michelin mention. This is definitely a restaurant everyone should experience. I’m sure I’ll be back because the food was absolutely delicious — I’m still craving it today.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience truly memorable flavors. ✨

Came here for lunch with a friend to give it a try. Definitely was worth it!! First time trying udon for both of us so we order the chicks one and the wagyu. Both broth were filled with flavor and good texture. The crunchy garlic also gave it a good texture when mixed in. Both proteins where amazing and rich in flavor, the chicken was served in the side vs inside the udon. For appetizers both were very good but my favor was the fried chicken w/ the sauce. 10/10 recommend this restaurant. The service was great, both lady’s were very friendly and knew their menu.

Came in for lunch after a day at the outlets and it was fabulous! The eggplant was seasoned to perfection and succulent. The noodles were unmatched and the broth was silky. It paired very nicely with the sweet potato which was light and crispy. The desserts however were my favorite part of the meal! This panna cotta is the best I’ve had all year! It’s light, creamy, smooth, and the red bean adds a grounding element to the airy experience. It’s a must try!
The only thing that could’ve made this experience better is having hot herbal tea options. I am caffeine and alcohol free, and the only option I had was a cold mocktail (yummy, but I prefer to drink warm beverages with my meals as it’s better for digestion).

First time at Zaru and won’t be the last. Host Amy was friendly and accommodating. The seating was comfortable and the food was amazing ! Enjoyed everything we ordered including the drinks. Reasonable pricing. I look forward to my next visit to try something new. Only 4 stars for atmosphere because I wish the place was bigger.

5/5 Stars – Cozy Udon Haven!
Tucked away right off of Colonial, this little gem serves up the most slurpable udon I’ve ever had. The broth is rich and flavorful, noodles perfectly chewy, and toppings fresh as can be. Cornucopia of textures in each bite! Friendly staff and intimate vibe make it feel like home. Highly recommend for a quick, satisfying meal!

I loved this place!! What you eat, what you see, what you hear, it’s the perfect combination!!
I highly recommend this place to come with your significant other. The eggplant was my first favorite, chicken namban was my second favorite. Everything taste fresh!!
We came on a Saturday before 5, no waiting time.

The high expectation that comes with being in Michelin Guide may be useful in drawing customers, but meeting those expectations from wider audience can be incredibly challenging. In this case, while the high quality noodles came through in the entree, the flavor came up short. While cold udon is an interesting concept, the execution could’ve used little more assertive flavor profile. Given its casual and busy vibe, it is an excellent place for first date.

visited Zaru recently and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The service stood out right away—friendly, attentive, and impressively quick without feeling rushed. For appetizers, I had the crab salad, which was beautifully fresh and balanced, setting the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional meal. The highlight was the in-house made udon noodles served with sea urchin, salmon roe, and sliced beef in a creamy fish sauce. The noodles had that perfect chewy texture that only fresh hand-pulled udon can deliver, and each ingredient complemented the other beautifully. The sea urchin’s richness melted into the sauce, while the salmon roe added bursts of flavor in every bite. It’s easy to see why Zaru is Michelin-recommended—the experience felt refined yet comforting, with ingredients that clearly received careful attention and preparation. I’ll definitely be returning soon.

First time trying this Udon restaurant and the food was absolutely amazing. The noodles were perfectly chewy and the flavors of the Spicy Miso Tantan and the beef bowl were extremely comforting! You order on a sheet of paper and they might still be new but some of our beverages were forgotten and we had to ask for them. But they had unique sake and beers. We also waited a long time for our checks. The restaurant seemed like the type where everyone serves all tables but there was a lot of miscommunication and we weren’t checked on much. The food absolutely speaks for itself though.

This is such a gem! We stopped by while in town after reading about the authentic udon and we cannot wait to be back! Everything was perfect but the yaki nasu was the star for me. The eggplant melts in your mouth and explodes with an umami flavor bomb. Cannot recommend it enough!
