Edit after reply (unsure if it will still be there after editing):
I’m honestly really disappointed with this response from Zak’s. To say that staff moved us to a table with 2 other tables available nearby is blatantly false. We were moved from one 8 person table to another, and we had to find a member of staff to request the other table we had booked, only to be told there wasn’t one anymore, and that we should’ve booked all at once if we wanted to sit together, which was not what we asked for.

Furthermore, our entire party had arrived long before our orders were taken. The last people arrived at around 7:35-7:40, with wait staff completely ignoring us until 8:10. By the time our food arrived, as I say in the main review, it was 8:40, and with the entire experience up til then and the fact they were supposedly closing in 20 minutes, it felt pointless to ask for it to be recooked.

I want to preface this review by mentioning that we were a large and slightly awkward party. Due to the maximum booking size we were a table of 8 and a table of 4. I can understand how some confusion could be caused here, but ultimately I don’t feel this excuses the service we received.

First of all, we arrived at 7:15 and were sat at a table of 8, waiting for the others to arrive, but when they did we were moved to a different table of 8 and then had to ask for our other table, only to find out that it had been given to a walk-in, though we were able to get another table.

As I said, we arrived at the restaurant at 7:15, and our order wasn’t taken until around 8:15, which isn’t the worst wait I’ve ever had, but definitely longer than it should have been considering that the restaurant wasn’t all that busy.

Our food arrived at 8:45, which was a little strange seeing as the listed closing time is 9pm, but we were looking forward to enjoying our food. Unfortunately, one of us had ordered a hotdog, which arrived without onions on it, and his wedges did not come with the gravy he ordered. More concerningly, my steak, which I ordered Medium Rare, came entirely Blue, while someone else’s came Well Done. The sides were good though.

Ultimately, while I understand that a party as large as ours can cause problems, both the service and food were nowhere near acceptable, and far below what I’ve previously come to expect from Zak’s during prior visits. I can only assume there were some problems behind the scenes, and will probably return another day with hopes that this was a fluke.

Value for money is amazing here. Wing it Wednesday is well worth a visit. Start with 8 wings, fresh meaty free range double wings, not processed from a freezer. Then they just keep co ing in multiples of 4, and you chose your flavours.
The staff are really friendly

We had no problems booking but I did find the car park to be really tiny and a tight squeeze. I have no idea where else we could have parked. The restaurant has great decor and really adds to the American feel and theme. The staff are all really lovely, enthusiastic and friendly. Service was efficient and the food was brilliant. We had no problems here at all and highly recommend visiting. After eating we were able to sit outside by the river with a drink, it was a lovely summers evening and just perfect. Will definitely be returning!

We walked along the riverbank from Fye Bridge to Zaks, a pleasant stroll there and back. The baby ribs in barbecue sauce were utterly delicious, they fell off the bone. Fries came hot and crispy, I didn’t have enough capacity to finish the lovely coleslaw. Excellent service and atmosphere, with a relaxing view out across the river to Cow Tower.

A few years ago, going to Zak’s was an experience, the burgers were amazing, glasses were frozen and the staff buzzing.
This has clearly changed, the food was ok, the 2 lonely pieces of processed cheese on a burger was upsetting as were the tiny, end of the bag fries. The Caesar Salad with Halloumi was small but the courgette fries were great.
We ordered cocktails, I asked for the long island iced Tea, (to share or not does not, it seem mean 2 sizes) the server did not let me know that this was only in sharing size and a bowl of iced tea arrived, I said that I was expecting a normal sized one and was told , that’s the only size we do.
I would have been ok with that had the drink had the kick I would expect from this cocktail, it was vaguely flavoured overpowered by the coke.
The staff were indifferent which made a birthday meal disappointing. Maybe this was just a bad day at the waterside.

Delicious food. Great portion sizes. An all American theme in the restaurant and on the menu. Service was slow with two small children but we like to get in, fed and leave before they cause to much chaos. If you’re not in a rush then it’s fine.

Wife and I fancied a Sunday morning breakfast and having heard great things about Zak’s decided to give it a go.
We arrived around 11:00 and parked in the small car park with no issues. There was a beautiful classic American car parked outside.
On entering, we were greeted warmly and asked whether we wanted to sit inside or outside?
We chose outside despite the inside of the restaurant having some very cool looking American/Rock and Roll Memorabilia.
This turned out to be a great move as the view from the outside terrace is amazing.
A very friendly waitress took our order (1 large American and 1 small American breakfast ). And shortly after brought us two cups of tea (You get bottomless teas or coffees with the breakfasts a nice touch).
We sat back and enjoyed the views and the conversations form other guests, a couple of who were obviously in a rock & roll band that had played last night. It was a great, friendly, and chilled vibe.
When the food arrived, it was great, the sausage patties tasted like they had been charcoal grilled and were worth the price of entry on their own, the rest of the meal didn’t disappoint in either quality or quantity, we paid the bill which came to a remarkably reasonable £19 (we added a 22% tip as the service was excellent).
We will be going back.

A high thank you to all the staff at Zak’s, they run a remarkably great restaurant and do it well.

Great decor and location next to river, cocktail’s quite sweet and not at a top level but came here for food which was very nice and plenty on plate for what you pay. Staff very pleasant, attentive and helpful.
Unable to score on atmosphere as was a late lunch so was a bit quiet, would definitely return for an evening meal.

Absolutely love this place. We always visit in the week about 5pm and it’s never busy. Food is hot and cooked well (never burnt, always juicy).

Staff are always super friendly and nothing is too much for them. We always see the older blonde lady and she’s always in a good mood and smiling. All the staff are friendly with our kids, getting involved with them with high fives etc.

We only visit every couple of months as a treat but we are consistently treated well. We love you guys, thank you

Zaks Riverside Bar and Grill is an absolute gem that delivers big on flavor, vibes, and variety. Nestled by the water, this place offers not just scenic views, but a menu that’ll make your taste buds sing. If you’re a burger or hot dog lover, prepare yourself — the selection here is nothing short of legendary.

From towering gourmet burgers stacked with juicy patties and bold toppings, to classic all-American hot dogs with a twist, every bite is pure satisfaction. The portions are generous, the buns are perfectly toasted, and the combinations are creative without being over the top. Whether you’re a traditionalist or someone who likes it spicy, there’s something for everyone.

But let’s talk about the real showstoppers — the milkshakes and cocktails. The milkshakes are indulgent, thick, and packed with flavor. Whether you’re into Oreo, strawberry, or something more adventurous, they’re dessert and drink in one. And the cocktails? Smooth, balanced, and served with flair. Perfect for sipping while watching the sunset over the river.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with friendly staff and a laid-back vibe that makes you want to linger longer. Whether you’re out with friends, on a date, or just treating yourself, Zaks hits all the right notes.

If you’re anywhere near the area and haven’t tried it yet — what are you waiting for? Zaks Riverside is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food, great drinks, and a great time.
